Amazon.co.uk Review
The tender, tragic saga of Jason Vorhees, the world's unhappiest camper, continues when yet another batch of hormonally advanced teens decide to ignore past history and spend some time at the woodsy, pine-scented slaughterhouse known as Camp Crystal Lake. It may be a bit of a stretch to describe any of the entries in this interminable series as "good," but this creatively grotesque installment manages to come surprisingly close with a welcome sense of humour and some quick glimmers of real menace (courtesy of director Steve Miner, who would later go on to helm the far more accomplished Halloween: H20). Originally presented in 3-D, which explains the never-ending slew of objects (knives, pitchforks, yo-yos, cats, eyeballs, etc.) that are repeatedly thrust in the viewer's general direction. --Andrew Wright

Synopsis
Jason Voorhees (Richard Brooker) returns again to Camp Crystal Lake, where he drowned nearly three decades before while some negligent camp counselors made out on the beach. Understandably upset by this turn of events, Jason continues to haunt his old stomping grounds, dealing death to those thrill-seeking teens who venture into the woods. This time around, Jason faces tougher victims in the form of a motorcycle gang and dons his trademark hockey mask. The film was originally presented in theatres in 3-D.

Special Features:

Fresh Cuts: 3D Terror
--We seek out new interviews with actors, writers, key production members (not included in the previous DVD release) --plus special guests (i.e. horror experts, celebrities at “Scarefest”) --to provide fresh new stories about the film.

Legacy of the Mask--We chart the evolution of the mask and the face behind the mask through the first eight films. We’ll talk to filmmakers, make-up artists, and Friday experts to explain what changed from film to film. And our expert graphics department will create a unique way to transition between Jason’s evolving looks.

Slasher Films: Going for the Jugular--How do you define a “slasher’ film and what are the rules? Using Friday the 13th films as a focal point, we’ll take a tongue-in-cheek look at this horror subgenre, with help from Friday cast members, and horror experts. Includes a quiz on the ‘rules’ of slasher films.

Lost Tales from Camp Blood Pt 2 and 3--The 'killogy'--new camp counselors meet their grizzly fate at the hands of a viscious killer. The fans clamour for deleted scenes. Blogs and rumors run rampant that they exist. But according to director Sean Cunningham, they don’t. So why don’t we create one? Our resident horror filmmakers will produce a short vignette in the same style as the original, complete with terrifying visual effects as a new camp counselors are killed off by unseen killer.

THAT SCENE!1
To me FRIDAY THE 13TH PART III just has the worst FX I have ever seen in a (Friday) flick. Although I have never seen this in 3D (and never will, since I have rarely seen a more boring film) the FX with Jason popping the teen's eye out with the spiral wire clearly visible did it for me, it completely ruined the film.
Obviously the film makers realized that and hired makeup FX superhero Tom Savini again to do the FX for Part 4.
However, the "story" (or shall I say plot) is the same as in ANY Friday film. 3D FX are NOT included (only on the region 1 DVD). It is UNCUT, but what's there to cut? According to the BBFC it even has been rerated 15, so even they realized the FX were laughable.
Personally I prefer ROSEMARY'S KILLER (aka THE PROWLER) or SWITCHBLADE ROMANCE to thsi garbage. If it's gotta be Jason, I suggest Parts 4, 6, 7 and JASON GOES TO HELL. Just AVOID Parts 3 & 8 at all cost!

3.5 stars for the film, 2 for this edition - and NOT in 3D!2
As the case with Part 2, this DVD 'special edition' is a reaction to the slick 2009 remake, which reportedly takes the finest moments of the original first four films to create a 'back to basics' feel.

Unlike the American release however, the Region 2 product does not have the 3D option, robbing the film of its most viable selling point. Instead, there are some minimalist extras concerning the production including interviews with some cast members (and also those from other films), the origin of the hockey mask and also a small featurette about shooting in 3D.

The strange 'Lost Tales from Camp Blood' mini-series continues with Parts 2 & 3 both present, now following a pair of teens hiking into the woods as they are stalked and slain by the not-Jason killer... Not cut-footage, the infamous alternate ending isn't present either, although there are some production stills shown.

The film itself is a fun ride but the series started to get a little dumb from this point and the film recycled a lot of material from Parts 1 & 2, even ripping off the canoe-shock climactic shock from the original. Dana Kimmell is fun as the weepy heroine, overracting with the best of 'em, but I guess the cast were bored by the endless retakes to get the 3D right.
