Synopsis
NO HEROICS is a six-part comedy series about four old friends who just happen to be off-duty superheroes. Based in a capes-only pub, the show focuses on their day-to-day lives - which for supposed saviours of the world is actually pretty much the same as everyone else's. In fact, superheroics seem far from their mind behind relationships, sex lives, and a constant desperation for success and fame.

Instead, this group of B-listers would rather get drunk and commiserate their lack of superiority in their local superheroes-only pub, The Fortress...

NO HEROICS is an ground-breaking comedy featuring stellar Britcom talent. The show has garnered much critical praise and a nomination for Best New Comedy at the British Comedy Awards.

Heroic Extras
For some reason "No Heroics" seems to have slipped under the radar with little or no fanfare to announce its' DVD release. Shown first on ITV2, repeated again shortly after and now just come to the end of its run on ITV1, it is about 4 off duty superheroes(plus many other supporting characters) sat in the pub, discussing their day-to-day lives.

If you are expecting major special effects to rival BBC2's "Heroes" then you're going to be disappointed! The emphasis here is firmly on comedy and the sparkling script focuses on things like relationships & their insecurities and neuroses. The casting of the 4 main characters is razor sharp, but watch out from a scene stealing performance from Mark Heap as "Lightkiller" and Patrick Baladi (who you might know better as David Brents nemesis "Neil" from "The Office") is utterly superb as the arrogant & swarmy "Excelsor".

The extras on this DVD also very good, and seeing as I had some difficulty finding details of the extra features on the DVD I will go through them all here;
HEROES UNMASKED - a "MAKING OF" featurette. This follows filming over the 5 weeks and lasts about 19 minutes. It's Ok but there are only so many times you can see someone say how brilliant the staff are, film crew, make up artistes etc etc.
GEEK TOUR - This is a 3-4 minute "tour" of all the hidden details in the pub "the Fortress" (for example, some of the spirits in the background have names like "Logan's Rum" which is a reference to Wolverine from the X-men)Intersting once unless youre REALLY into comic books!
BLOOPER REEL- self explanatory - lasts 7 minutes. Amusing
ART GALLERY - These are still photographs of artwork used in the series. (for example, the trading cards that "the Hotness" is collecting in one of the episodes)
GEEK DETAIL GALLERY - more still photographs of "The Fortress" - mainly of the items discussed in the Geek Tour. Probably the weakest extra feature.
PHOTO GALLERY - ANOTHER collection of still photo's. This time of cast & crew.
POWER HOUR INTERVIEWS - In my opinion the best extra feature although quite short. Each of the 5 main characters are "interviewed" by a news crew in a "man-in-the-street" type way. Shame each interview only lasts about a minute but still very funny.
EXTENDED/DELETED SCENES - I normally look forward to deleted/extended scenes as they can be hidden gems only cut for reasons of space and timing, but in this case I was disappointed. There are only 6 they add very little - in some cases the extended dialogue is so brief that it is hardly noticeable from the final aired version. (plus there is a weird 2 & a half minute clip of "Doomball" sat waiting to be tortured by "Timebomb" in the Fortress cellar - he's just sat there for nearly 3 mnutes!! Huh? I don't get it?)

In conclusion, refreshingly original + faultless acting = Inventive comedy.

FANTASTIC COMEDY

One of the best comedies I've seen in a while. Fantastic characters and great comedy moments. Very british and very funny. Six episodes and every one a giggle. If you like the superhero format then I this would be a perfect dvd to kick back on a Friday night and have a laugh. 10/10
