To be honest, life sucks for Gemma Perkins (Connie Fisher How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?). She s in her 20s and is still living at home with her over-bearing stepmother Joyce and her down trodden father Brian. The only boy interested in her is timid neighbour Marcus and she has a low paid job, emptying car park meters of pound coins for her local council. She is bullied at work, has few friends and fewer chances to make any. Gemma takes solace in her secret passion Elvis Presley. Elvis has never let her down. When he sings it s as though he understands her like no one else can. She plays his records, watches his films, and knows everything about his music and his life. When Gemma accidentally discovers how easy it is to spend some of the car parking meter money and it not be noticed by her council colleagues, it quickly becomes addictive. What starts out as comfort spending glasses for her father, donations to charity - soon becomes bigger, bolder and more obsessive. Gemma starts buying Elvis Presley memorabilia small things at first a record here, a pack of cards there and it makes her happy just to own it. Purchases are getting bigger and more expensive and if she doesn t reign in her spending habits she s going to get caught. Inspired by a true crime, Caught In A Trap also stars Geraldine James (Little Britain, Kavanagh QC), Jim Carter (The Golden Compass, Cranford), Joe Absolom (Doc Martin, Vincent) and Paul Barber (Only Fools and Horses, The Full Monty). The soundtrack is packed full of all of Elvis greatest tracks. Add into the mix a brilliant script and great production values from the Producers of Foyle s War, plus Connie Fisher s TV drama debut and this DVD becomes even more collectable.

Synopsis
Featuring Connie Fisher (HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA?) in her TV drama debut, CAUGHT IN A TRAP is a modern-day musical fairytale. Gemma Perkins (Fisher) is a very ordinary young parking meter attendant, leading a very ordinary, uneventful life. Her secret passion for all things Elvis is what gets her through the days, he's never let her down... but he's about to get her in a whole heap of trouble. Realising how easily she can pocket the parking meter money, Gemma starts using it to cheer herself up. But what starts out as a few small purchases and charity donations, soon spirals out of control. It's not long before Gemma has managed to amass the world's largest collection of Elvis memorabilia, and its only a matter of time before someone notices! Based on a true life crime, this sweet, comical yet heartbreaking drama was a huge hit when aired on Boxing Day 2008, with Fisher's performance in particular, garnering rave reviews.

BEST ITV OFFERING AT CHRISTMAS
What an enjoyable drama played out on Boxing Day. This was Connie Fisher's tv acting debut and I thought she played the part of Gemma Perkins excellently. Credit also to all the other actors - I particularly enjoyed watching Joe Absolom stuttering his way throughout.
Based on a true story Connie plays the part of Gemma Perkins who is obsessed with Elvis, which spirals out of control, financially draining the coffers of the local council.
The choice of Elvis songs entwinned with the story was brilliantly staged. The scene 'she walks like an angel' is a joy to watch.
All Elvis fans will love this and even if your not a fan it is still very watchable. I understand that this is also writer James Graham's debut drama for ITV and hopefully it will not be the last. This is the type of TV that will bring back audiences on a Saturday/Sunday evening.
good thought provoking film
