Product Description

FragFX v.2 for the PlayStation 3

The FragFX v.2 features a separate right hand mouse controller and detachable left hand grip controller, ideal for experiencing the traditional PC mouse and keyboard style gameplay of shooter games in a console environment.

  • v.2: Improved optical mouse
  • v.2: Improved Frag button
  • v.2: Improved mouse sensitivity
  • v.2: Improved motion sensitivity
  • v.2: Improved mouse buttons
  • v.2: Improved d-pa
  • v.2: Improved games support

    Key FragFX controller features include
  • The right hand mouse controller has the complete set of PS3 controller buttons. The mouse is used during game play to shoot, look left, right, up and down for that same PC style game play experience on the PlayStation 3.
  • The mouse is optimized for navigation within the recently announced PlayStation Home virtual world.
  • A menu mode on the mouse allows it to double as a regular mouse during menu selections. A lap mouse pad and left hand grip cradle is included with the FragFX to allow for comfortable play in a living room setting.
  • The left hand re-programmable grip (nicknamed the "FragChuck" by G4TV) has the full range of 6-axis motion control providing Wii-like motion sensitivity for the PlayStation 3. In games like Resistance: Fall of Man, to reload a weapon or to rifle butt an opponent, the user can swing the FragChuck.
  • The FragChuck also offers a game speed dial and frag button. When the frag button is pressed it slows the mouse down to incremental movement for smooth sniper shots. The speed dial allows for instant fast or slow overall game play. These two additional features let the user get out of battles as fast as they get into them.

Customer Reviews

far below my expectations...1
I had high expectations for the V2 Splitfish, however I was very disappointed, almost from the point of taking it out of the box!

The first game I tried was UT3 which I already I use a mouse/controller combination on. After nearly two hours I gave up because the sensitivity was horrible, it was either too much or nowhere near enough, there was seemingly no middle ground, making the game playable but awkward and very frustrating compared to my original set up. I use an MX518 for this game and the splitfish came nowhere near the quality of this mouse.

The second game I tried was Killzone 2. Again I threw in the towel, this time only after twenty minutes of playing.

I put my bad experience down to the ergonomics and sensitivity levels of the mouse. Firstly there's no scroll wheel, which I find is a must for any FPS that uses a mouse. The left and right buttons were not easily assignable as they were not marked with the corresponding buttons for the right side of the PS3 control pad. The triangle, square, circle and cross buttons could be pressed too easily by your thumb during the operation of the mouse.

The left hand control unit, which is similar to a Wii nunchuck wasn't that bad to be honest. It felt comfortable in the hand, although it was a little light. There were three trigger buttons to use with your index finder, L1, L2 and F (which I could not get to work in either of the games I tried). You also have two cables coming from this part of the controller.

Yet another let down, or design flaw, was the length and position of the cable that connects the mouse to the hand controller. It's less than two feet long and comes from the top of the mouse. If you are using this on a desktop you'll soon encounter cable interference with the mouse, something I can see most people soon getting tired of. If the cable was slightly longer and came out from the bottom left hand side of the mouse (which would not effect its use in any way) it would eliminate this issue!

Two positive things about this product were the well designed mouse mat which is a decent size, it's non slip and the cushioning is just right and, the main usb cable is of sufficient length to allow you to sit about four feet away from a TV.

And finally... in general, I know of other people that swear by this controller, some of which I play on a regular basis. They are good, skilled, gamers... so this fact proves the control has potential, and also to be used to an advantage; as in quick 180 degree turns. As for myself, I put my bad experience down to fact that this controller will require a large level of adaptability, so you will have to learn how to use it, which personally I have not got the time for. If you are coming from a mouse/keyboard gaming background then I fear you will have a similar experience as myself and end up hating the splitfish... where as if you're a console guru with little to no pc gaming time you should pick it up in no time.

upgrade your device driver3
it`s necessary to install the new fragfx beta device driver from the splitfish site. the current driver is garbage, because you can`t use the sniperbutton and the aiming is not so comfortable. after you have installed this, everythink is fine!

Splitfish Frag FX V25
I have just received the new improved version of the Frag FX and on first glances its exactly the same as the old one only that there is a ridge on the start button.
Plug and play into my PS3 and started playing Killzone 2 and it works superb ,there is little or no Dead Zone adjusted the sensitivity to 3.5 and there you have it the game works perfectly with the controller unlike my other Frag fx v1 which had conflicts .
So there is certainly improved software within the controller.
It is expensive at £62.00 +p+p but if you are a converted PC to console gamer and just cannot get along with the sixaxis or dualshock 3 then this is a must .
