CD Description
On this tenth studio album, the follow-up to 2006's 'From This Moment On', one of jazz's most popular artistes pays homage to the legendary Brazilian bossa nova scene of the 50s and 60s exemplified by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Krall has alwaysbeen a skilled and tasteful interpreter of the standards and this release is no different. Her smoky, seductive voice sways with the beat as she performs tunes by Jobim and infuses a selection of Tin Pan Alley classics with Latin spirit.

THE ANTICIPATION OF THE NEW TURNED TO DISSAPOINTMENT
I rate Diana very highly. As a rule. She certainly has something 'extra' in the quality of her voice, that will only get better as it matures. This album seems a long time in the making - and because of that, my anticipation was high. Sadly that turned to dissapointment after hearing it. The choice of songs could have been better. The world doesn't need another 'Ipanema', and 'Walk on by' is too obvious as the follow up to 'the look of love' she recorded previously. She seems to be overstating the smokyness of her voice, as if to state 'haven't I got the most sensuous voice you've ever heard?' It's almost a characature of her style. The album would have been so much stronger of they had produced more 'genuine' Brazilian music. All in all it feels like the kind of album the likes of Nancy Wilson could record in 3 days during the 60's. Almost a filler until the next one comes along. Maybe she is too proccupied with producing Barbra Streisand's new album. Having said all that - it is still a listenable album, but not a classic.
GOOD but not GREAT
The reviews by others of this release are mixed, and rightly so. The performances range from average to marvellous. Much as Ilove her singing, the breathy 'Marilyn Monroe' side is overemphasised somewhat on this recording (especially on the song sung in Portuguese) Also, Claus Ogermann, great man that he is, seems to have produced wonderful arrangements for the more difficult songs (eg Everytime we say goodbye, Accustomed to her face)and rather more humdrum ones for the more lightweight numbers (do we really need another cover of Ipanema...!?). Their previous collaboration was better in terms of consistency but this is certainly worth a listen.
Quiet Nights
I have bought most of Diana Kralls CDs but this will be the last one,,terrible
