We're one nation under the groove & it's endless summer!
Bluey & co have done it again! On offer this time is a superb artifact from Java Jazz Festival in 2008 with a Incognito line-up countain 12, including five lead vocalists! The incomparable Maysa Leak is a favourite among fans with her pure & perfect tone and soulful intensity. Included here is a jaw-dropping version of the poignant ballad Deep Waters with some scat vocal improvisations from Maysa that make the audience cook! Elsewhere Imaani is doing a perfect job on such numbers as I Can See The Future. Tony Momrelle sings some of their numbers in a direction strongly recalling mid-70s Stevie Wonder. They do a storming version of his Don't You Worry About A Thing. The instrumentalists are also all perfect - Francis Hylton performs on a six string bass and works well in the company of veteran member Richard Bailey on drums and percussion. The brass trio augment the music with short sharp shots. Matt Cooper add cool, jazzy el-piano chords on many tracks and synthesizers to several others. Bluey himself is the musical direction in the background adding those magic rhythm guitar runs you hardly notice at first.
The magic with Incognito is their wide array of different influences varying from house to old school soul jazz and funk with even latin and african rhythms. In a way this is perfect world music belonging to the whole world, not to any nations. Both musicians and the audience seem to enjoy themselves enormously and the intensity of the show is of an almost relegious character. This is the soundtrack to a happier mankind spreading peace, love & understanding, if more people listened to this the world would be a far happier place. So please, do yourself a big favour and delve into this unique live experience, I'm sure you will love it as much as me! It's probably the best live DVD in the world!
