Guitar Hero Metallica
Right, I'm not reviewing the demo, I have Guitar Hero Metallica, I bought it on ebay from the U.S, because I simply could not wait until May. I can't really review the gameplay, because it's just good old guitar hero, hit the green, red, yellow, blue, and orange notes, as they cross the targets at the bottom of the screen. GH:M is alot better than world tour, which don't get me wrong was also a great game, but GH:M has gone back to the previous GH style, where you have a setlist of songs to beat, instead of playing tours, and I personally prefer the setlist. But with GH:M Activision has added a new insentive to the career mode, to get to the most difficult tier of songs on the setlist, you have to have accumulated above a certain number of stars, I can't remember exactly, so when you've earned enough stars, you can go straight to the last tier and I had earned enough stars about halfway through my hard lead guitar career, so i went straight to the last tier, and got to play the more challenging songs like "One" "Fight Fire With Fire" And "War Ensemble". Another good point is the ability to gain trophies, and there's a nice sense of accomplishment when you get a trophy. I think that the only downside to GH:M is that there is a song on it that is 11 minutes long, I almost fell asleep while I was playing it. So to summarise GH:M is better than GHWT, but i would only recommend this game to Metallica fans, I'm not a huge fan of Aerosmith so I didn't buy GH:Aerosmith, so only buy this if you are a Metallica fan and have fun with it if you do buy it.

A must buy for Metallica fans...
I bought the game when it was released in the US and have been playing more than a month now. We, as a family, are great fans of Rock Band 1/2 and also enjoy GHWT a lot given the variety of songs and groups. We have GHWT instrument set but also a standalone wireless RB2 guitar (from US again) which perfectly works with this game as well.
In comparison, and naturally, GH-Metallica is focused on the legendary group and you dont want to miss this game if you are a fan and do enjoy (or did enjoy) listening Metallica and alike. There are multiple other songs from various other Hard Rock groups, which you will enjoy playing, but still will be looking forward to play another Metallica every time. Unless you play only on easy, songs are distinctively faster and harder in comparison to the other games (for guitar, bass as well the drums). This is a real rock game and Metallica songs are much harder and far longer than standard 4-5mins. The game presents a good mix of Metallica's songs from various albums, both oldies as well as goldies. As an old time Metallica fan, it is a different feeling playing their songs, travelling in time noticing how their style has differed although slightly, but, rediscover again that the guitar riffs have always been the same! (try Sad but True, you wont regret missing any other note but the riffs! what can I say, it makes you feel happy as you play along...)
As you progress in the career mode collecting stars, new and generally harder songs are unlocked in new venues. Trophies is a new feature of the game (like RB2), and earning them makes you grin as you know every one of them is well deserved. There are some small perks like some production videos and Metallifacts giving interesting background info on the songs/the groups (not only Metallica but others like Motorhead etc which have songs in the game), as well as how Metallica has worked with the GH team while developing the game (some of them are pretty funny indeed). Also you can change how Metallica members look while playing one of their songs, either long hairs from `90s or their recent style, or play the bass as Lenny in Ace of Spades...
Bottom-line, solid GH game with some new features that you will enjoy. Nothing really exciting in terms of a new innovation or a big difference compared to previous games but a real must buy for Metallica fans...
Better than expected and more to come!
Having played this yesterday for a fair few hours I had to write a review and express my amazement at how well this product is put together. The game itself, the graphics and the song list is just amazing.
First off, I played this on the PS3 and was blown away by the graphics. Finally the Guitar Hero games have gone into overdrive on the background animations. The whole band is there, instantly recogniseable as themselves (with only Kirk being somewhat flawed in appearance but still very convincing). But what makes it stand out so much is the rendering and quality has finally begun to catch up with the hardware available and it looks breathtaking.
The game play itself is superb, and if you have played and enjoyed previous Guitar Hero or Rock Band games then this will not disappoint. The difficulty seems to be a little harder, although this could be just as easily due to the songs themselves being more complex than say Blondie - One Way Or Another, rather than being a deliberate attempt at upping the difficulty (which personally I think it needed from World Tour which seemed a touch too easy).
On to the Set List! If you like Metal, Metallica and generally rocking out with a plastic axe in your hand then this is a must own game. The majority of songs are there along with some very good songs by other artists chosen by the band themselves (from Slayer to SOAD and even the original version of Turn the Page which Metallica covered). The songs really are great and I was in heaven playing through Master of Puppets to The Memory Remains and everything in between.
One quick note about the song list though, there are some noteable ommissions. Two big songs that stand out as being noteably absent are Blackened and Call of Ktulu, two of my favourite songs byt he band, so look for an expansion in the near future to further cash in on what is one of the best Metal bands ever to have deadened my ear-drums.
Top game and a must own for any fan of both the Guitar Hero series and Metallica themselves. Certainly the whole band only sets now are a very good idea and while there is a Beatles one comign shortly for Rock Band, I can't help but think while the beatles songs are great, Metallica lends itself to losing yourself in Guitar God status much more...do you envisage strumming along to yesterday and Can't buy Me Love or thrashing out to One, Enter Sandman or Welcome Home (Sanitarium).
Rock on!
