Did It Really Need A Sequel?2
Donnie Darko was a cult classic for it's odd plot, outstanding pefomances from upcoming actors and actress and the hit song Mad World being a Christmas number 1 for a while. When I heard that they were making a sequel, I was a little annoyed as it really didn't need one but would be willing to check it out at home. The story is of Sam, the youngest sister of Donnie, going on a road trip with her friend Corey, only for their car to break down. Stuck in a dead-end town, they meet with all sorts of characters only to have the same sort of event happening again with the world coming to a end in four days only this time without the scary looking rabbit prejecting the future. It was okay, had a much happier ending than Donnie Darko, but like one reviewer did it really need a sequel? It has some stunning sights and alright pefomances from the young cast but I wasn't too overkeen with it. Recommened only if you are a fan of Donnie Darko and is intrested in the sequel, if you are a fan of the orginal and not sure about this avoid as it's not really the same without the lead (Jake Gyllehaal) being in it.

Don't touch with a bargepole1
It's not that it is badly acted or directed because those two elements are, on their own, okay. It is just that it is completely pointless and muddled. And this would apply even if the original film had not been a masterpiece.

It doesn't have any coherent plot and then makes it worse by contriving time slips to completely change the non-plot again. It has a sort of sub story about missing people but doesn't make that a coherent part of the story.

It is terrible and very disppointing. The one star is for it being relatively short - thankfully.

Oh dear....1
Stop.

Don't do it.

This film is terrible. It takes the wonder that was Donnie Darko and strips it of all the things that made it good. Where there was symbolism and prophetic, allegorical mystery, now there is only pretention. There is a reason that this film was barely shown in the cinemas over here. Go watch the first one again and you'll realise that a second movie was a stupid idea to begin with.

EVEN THE SCREENWRITER IN THE DVD EXTRAS SAYS IT DIDN'T NEED A SEQUEL!

Nuff said.
