Customer Reviews

Good but Flawed3
I purchased this Acronis software after upgrading to Windows 7 and finding that my Norton "Save & Restore" package would no longer run - and Norton do not appear to want to make it work under Windows 7 either.

Acronis TrueImage seems to work Ok on my desktop system and it does everything promised, although the backup files created are not very compressed and take up to twice the space of the equivalent files generated by the Norton software. Also it takes about 2 to 3 times longer to perform a backup.

TrueImage 2010 also seems to have some annoying bugs and shortcomings. The main grief so far has been with the way it handles timestamps and system times. For instance each backup process generates a logfile in which the messages are timestamped 1 hour later than they actually occured. Also manually triggered backups generate file names that contain the date in the form dd-mm-yyyy" whereas scheduled backups contain the date in the form "mm-dd-yyyy"" which is the mad North American sequence. In any case timestamps in file names should be in the form "yyyy-mm-dd" so that files are correctly ordered in an alpahbetical listing. Other time stamping issues are present.

Be warned also that installation involves manually entering a 64-character licence code - and don't be fooled by the flier that comes in the box about an easy way to do this - it doesn't work.

Good features but too many bugs and poor support - avoid3
I chose this product based on some of the reviews on the computer press and the product has a very good feature set.

Having just had to reinstall all software on my PC due to a disk corruption I wanted something able to do full system backups this product has all the feaures and ncludes the ability to recover individual files from system backups.

I have found too many issues to give a positive rating of the product.

You have to enter a 64 digit serial number despite what it says in the box about being able to use 16 digits.

The software offers 30 days support but there is nowhere on the Acronis web site that allows you to request such support giving only the options of forums or paid support.

The installation claims to check for newer builds but said there were none although this was untrue.

My system crashes trying to view a backup images and can take 2 hours to respond to a simple request in Acronis.

Both the above are claimed to be fixed in the latest build.

However users the Acronis forum say this latest build 6029 hangs Windows 7

Originally I gave this three stars on the hope that Acronis would sort things out.

I have now found that installing Acronis stops my Norton 360 backups from working (even with the latest build) and this has proven the final straw.

I have taken the decison to return this for a refund on the grounds of inadequate performance and quality.

I will be purchasing Norton Ghost 15 which will be available later this month.

Purchased reluctantly but still the best recovery system.5
Having reviewed Windows 7 RC1 for the past 6 months I found that Acronis True Image 2009 and Acronis True Image 11 were not compatible with the new Windows 7 OS. This version tested before the general release date is.
It may well be the first of many necessary software upgrades for windows 7 although the pre installation compatibility test for Windows 7 did not pick this particular product up as likely to cause problems.
A backup using the old products on Windows 7 at first indicated 10 hours to complete but then stalled at 73% complete.
Having used this product in the past and by used I mean depending totally on it on 4 occasions when the complete system was recovered I feel that it will still be necessary.
Perhaps Windows 7 own backup system will be OK but this is a product I trust.

The serial number is 64 digits and almost impossible to put in correctly but if you are online as you install putting in the first few digits will send an email of the complete number to copy and paste in.
It is also essential to register the product and pick up the Build 6029 (Nov 2009) updates as a number of Build 5055 problems on the disk have been fixed.
Like all good software they are adding more and more features which are in my opinion not necessary and are making the interface more confusing rather than less.
