Dark Side of the Moon - 30th Anniversary EditionDark Side of the Moon - 30th Anniversary Edition by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £6.07 / Used from: £6.52
Always in my all time favourite lists. BUT NOW that SACD 5.1 sound. This is the reason I spent £300 on a new Surround sound DVD / SACD player. IT WAS WORTH IT!!
RevolverRevolver by The Beatles
Buy new: £7.58 / Used from: £3.46
No list would be complete without them. They were beginning to experiment. George starts to blossom, Macca is at his most whimsical, Lennon is GOD, and Ringo is alright as well.
Into the MusicInto the Music by Van Morrison
Buy used from: £3.50
The best intro to Van. Bright sdide of the road opens. And down by the pylons we hear Van's hybrid celtic/folk/soul/jazz thing. I bought this with my paper round money and it remains in my top 25.
The Piper at the Gates of DawnThe Piper at the Gates of Dawn by Pink Floyd
Buy new: £11.99 / Used from: £7.20
Their first and best. Psychadelic masterpeice, just before Syd Barrett loses it forever.
Forever Changes: ExpandedForever Changes: Expanded by Love
Buy new: £4.26 / Used from: £3.02
I know I am not being very original with my choices, but it is good. Hippy psychadelic folk rock at its best. It takes a while for it take a hold, but when it does...!!!
The Man Comes Around [Bonus Tracks]The Man Comes Around [Bonus Tracks] by Johnny Cash
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.50
The Big Man's last and, I say, best. I would recomend all of the Rick Rubin produced American Recordings of the Big Man. I just don't have the space here!!
Abbey RoadAbbey Road by The Beatles
Buy new: £7.53 / Used from: £5.12
I grew up on this, in particular the second side medley. It is ingrained in my soul. If you do not know this album - BUY IT NOW!!!!
Tug Of WarTug Of War by Paul McCartney
Buy new: £4.08 / Used from: £4.07
Maaca teams up with George Martin for the first time since Abbey Road. His best solo effort, if you exclude the Ebony and Ivory codswallop!!
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars: RemasteredThe Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars: Remastered by David Bowie
Buy new: £4.53 / Used from: £2.49
Never been a great Bowie fan, other than this masterpeice - the opening track (Five Years) is so hypnotic you are drawn into Ziggy's world of sequins and stars.
Astral WeeksAstral Weeks by Van Morrison
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £1.45
His first and some say best. Put it on, pour a glass of wine, switch off the lights and experience it. It will invade your soul!! You will never forget!!
Blood on the TracksBlood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £4.00
Dylan at his most accsessible. A must have. This is simply Dylan at his best. I never rated him as a great 60's singer and nothing in the 80's particularly inspired him.So stick with the 70's era!!
The Very Best Of Cat StevensThe Very Best Of Cat Stevens by Cat Stevens
Buy new: £6.44 / Used from: £5.30
JUST BUY SOME CAT. This is as good as any compiltaion currently available. No collection is complete without the CAT!!
MoondanceMoondance by Van Morrison
Buy new: £4.20 / Used from: £1.69
More accessible than Astral Weeks. A cracking slice of brassy soul.
BerlinBerlin by Lou Reed
Buy new: £4.00 / Used from: £4.01
Arguably better than New York and Transformer. I rate this one.
John Lennon/Plastic Ono BandJohn Lennon/Plastic Ono Band by John Lennon
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £5.29
His Janov Primal Scream Album. Raw and moving. Never has he been so personal and laid his heart open as he does here.
Led Zeppelin IIILed Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
Buy new: £4.01 / Used from: £2.27
Anything by these Gods. But LZIII just pips the others past the post due to the opener (Immigrant Song) - quite simply the best rock song ever ever written. Accept no substitute!!
Tubular Bells Vol.1: RemasteredTubular Bells Vol.1: Remastered by Mike Oldfield
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.89
Play it loud. It rocks! Don't bother with the SACD version.
ChroniclesChronicles by Steve Winwood
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.20
Perhaps you remember Talking back to the night or Valerie. There's a lot more to him and this compilation gives us a small glimspe of what he can do.
Sinatra At The SandsSinatra At The Sands by Frank Sinatra
Buy used from: £33.79
The best live album anywhere. So kitchy 60's - not very PC but hey, it takes you back to a time and place where you wish you could have been.
At Folsom PrisonAt Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.99
The second greatest live album ever. The Big Man surrounded by murderers, rapists and other unsavouries and he is able to connect with them through this music.
The Sopranos Vol. 2 - Peppers And EggsThe Sopranos Vol. 2 - Peppers And Eggs by Original Soundtrack
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £5.73
Currently my favourite compilation. You don't have to be a fan of the series, although I am a big fan!. An eclectic mix.
Hit: the Definitive 2cd CollectionHit: the Definitive 2cd Collection by Peter Gabriel
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £3.99
I am not a massive fan of compilations. But I either recomend you buy all his back catalogue or you buy this, either way this guy is one my top tips. SEE HIM LIVE!!!
Imagine: RemasteredImagine: Remastered by John Lennon
Buy new: £4.55 / Used from: £4.00
Not his first but certainly his most commercial album. Oh Yoko and Crippled Inside are less well known stand out tracks. His last album to be recorded in the UK!!
Bat Out of HellBat Out of Hell by Meat Loaf
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £6.77
I grew up singing I want you, I need you, but there aint no way I'm ever gonna love you..etc in front of a mirror with a hairbrush as a mike!!!!!! Wait till the neighbors go out coz it needs volume!!
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club BandSgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
Buy new: £7.98 / Used from: £2.95
Too much has been said about this one, but no list would be complete without it.Best track has always been George's Indian thing (Within You Without You). Paul at his rocking best on the title track!!
