![]() | Suikoden (PS)
Buy new: £139.95 / Used from: £49.99 Simply the best RPG ever. An astounding atmosphere is what elevates this classic above the Final Fantasy series. A bit pricey these days, but astounding and a good investment.

![]() | Suikoden 2
Okay, a bit predictable maybe, but despite many claims, this sequel isn't quite as good as the original. Sure, it's longer, prettier and cheaper, but the battle system is slightly lacking. A must.

![]() | Final Fantasy VII Platinum
Buy new: £129.99 / Used from: £21.98 The best Final Fantasy by far. I do appreciate the originals, but this is the only installment that gets the number of random battle encounters correct.

![]() | Grandia
Buy used from: £19.98 Oh so underrated. This two disc adventure is a surprisingly enjoyable epic taking around 45+ hours to complete. Heavy battle sections are unbelievably rewarding, one for the hard-core RPG gamer.
|
![]() | Wild Arms
Buy used from: £15.99 I admit i haven't played the sequel as it didn't make it to European shores, but Wild Arms is utterly mesmerising, unlike the hugely disappointing third outing on PS2. Multiple stories, great concept!

![]() | Final Fantasy VIII Platinum
Buy new: £59.98 / Used from: £28.29 Very underrated FF game. Strong adult storyline and an equally grown up technical side makes for a surprisingly difficult gameplay experience, best played with a guide. Genuinely heartbreaking too.
|
![]() | Final Fantasy IX (Platinum)
Buy used from: £49.99 Many complain of the final boss being completely random in this game, but if they paid attention, the character DOES make a couple of early plot appearances. That aside, an underrated marvel.
|
![]() | Holy Magic Century (N64)
Buy used from: £3.50 Here's something a bit different. Possibly the only true RPG to get a PAL release on the N64, this gem from Konami may look dull, but solid gameplay is present. The price masks its relative obscurity.
|
![]() | Skies of Arcadia Legends
Buy used from: £42.95 The Gamecube update is the one to go for here, with a much better battle system and improved visuals over the Dreamcast. If you ever played Panzer Dragoon Saga, you'll love this.
