In SidesIn Sides by Orbital
Buy new: £6.78 / Used from: £4.08
Everyone knows them for Chime and Belfast but this is by far their best work.
Medicine 4 My PainMedicine 4 My Pain by Lynden David Hall
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.97
Mobo award winner. Smooth, sexy, soulful. A masterpiece.
LeftismLeftism by Leftfield
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.48
The first Leftfield album is still the best and a timeless classic.
Rage Against the MachineRage Against the Machine by Rage Against the Machine
Buy new: £4.88 / Used from: £1.84
Surely must of invented 'Nu-Metal' (I hate that phrase). Without these guys students with no music taste wouldn't be able to listen to Linkin Park....Is that a good thing ?
A Maximum HighA Maximum High by Shed Seven
Buy used from: £1.03
Shed Seven quit last year without ever gaining the recognition they deserved. It was tough to choose between this album and 'Change Giver' but 'A Maximum High' is full of Brit Pop classics.
SuperunknownSuperunknown by Soundgarden
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.54
Better than Nirvana and Pearl Jam ever were. This is my fave but search out Bad Motor Finger for more SoundGarden heaven.
Achtung BabyAchtung Baby by U2
Buy new: £6.58 / Used from: £0.99
A lot of people are bound to disagree but I preferred this U2 album over the usual suspects (Joshua Tree, Unforgettable Fire). I bought it when it came out and it never left my cd player for weeks.
TroublegumTroublegum by Therapy?
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.94
Mad Irish rockers hit pay dirt. One of the best albums of the nineties. They're great live too.
Maxwell's Urban Hang SuiteMaxwell's Urban Hang Suite by Maxwell
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.19
Another soulful classic. Bought from the Andys Records Recommended Recording list on impulse and never regreted it for one second. Shame about the follow up 'Embrya', he showed so much promise.
MetallicaMetallica by Metallica
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £4.98
An obvious choice but a true classic rock album. This was Metallica's turning point before they released the drivel that is 'Load' and 'Reload'.
ViolatorViolator by Depeche Mode
Buy used from: £1.49
Dave Gahan at his dark and brooding best. Such a departure from tuneful synth pop but it proved to be the best album by Depeche Mode.
KickKick by INXS
Buy used from: £15.99
Re-released on monday and not before time. One of the first albums I bought and still as good today.
When the World Knows Your NameWhen the World Knows Your Name by Deacon Blue
Buy used from: £0.01
This album really stands out for me as one of the best albums of the eighties. Most of their other work was average at best...hey, everybody has one good album in them.
The Colour and the ShapeThe Colour and the Shape by Foo Fighters
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.69
Ok Nirvana fans..drum roll.....the Foo Fighters are better than Nirvana ever were and this album just about proves my point. (If I hear the words Kurt Cobain, tortured genius again I swear I'll puke)
Moon SafariMoon Safari by Air
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.99
Talk about impulse buy. I saw that this was voted one of the top twenty albums of all time and bought it. My god they were right....
30 Something30 Something by Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine
Buy new: £6.48 / Used from: £2.54
Fond memories....Fruitbat chinning Philip Schofield at the Brits. Cheers for that lads, oh and for such a great album. Low Fat Custard.
TechniqueTechnique by New Order
Buy used from: £4.54
Was going to put in Substance but it's actually a collection. Technique is my favourite New Order album and also one of my favourite albums ever.
En-tact (1990)En-tact (1990) by Shamen
Buy used from: £17.98
Before the Shamen did mindless pop-dance, they did this classic work. Axis Mutatis...my god, what happened ????
Bona DragBona Drag by Morrissey
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.50
Morrissey proves that without The Smiths he's still great.
The Queen Is DeadThe Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Buy used from: £4.86
Worth it for 'There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out'. The rest of the album is unsurpassed as well. Morrissey and Marr at their greatest.
His 'N' HersHis 'N' Hers by Pulp
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.74
What ever happened to Jarvis Cocker...Pulp release this delightful album of poetry only for it to be at the very top of a downwards trajectory.
Music for the Jilted GenerationMusic for the Jilted Generation by The Prodigy
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.17
Mental note : When Keith and Leroy leave, stop recording !!. This is dance at it's raw and best by the godfathers of dance music. Much better than the over produced 'Fat Of The Land'
Purple RainPurple Rain by Prince & the Revolution
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £1.50
Prince before he went gaga. The movie didn't do the soundtrack justice. When Doves Cry is one of the best records ever.
The Stone RosesThe Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Buy used from: £1.37
Seminal work by The Roses. Oasis owe everything to these guys.
Ten Summoner's TalesTen Summoner's Tales by Sting
Buy new: £9.38 / Used from: £3.50
I just love this Sting album a story from beginning to end. A joy to behold.
