Recommended albums for Indie noiseniks
The '59 SoundThe '59 Sound by The Gaslight Anthem
Buy new: £5.08 / Used from: £5.18
Ever wondered what a modern indie/punk/rock band might sound like with a yound Bruce Springsteen on front vox? Wonder no more...
GlasvegasGlasvegas by Glasvegas
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.82
Not sure about that band name, but what a fantastic album. Drips with raw emotion, not to mention the strongest scottish accented singing voice since the Proclaimers.
The Seldom Seen KidThe Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.58
OK, so everyone's suddenly jumped on the Elbow bandwagon, doesn't make this a bad album though. Beautiful, beautiful music. As indeed are their other albums.
Black Holes and RevelationsBlack Holes and Revelations by Muse
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.99
You know, I always assumed they were exaggerating when people used to tell me just how brilliant Muse are live. Saw them for the first time at Wembley, turns out they weren't exaggerating after all.
Rage Against the MachineRage Against the Machine by Rage Against the Machine
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £2.61
Sounds as fresh today as it did in 1991, "Know Your Enemy" is one of my favourite rock tracks of all time.
Dear ScienceDear Science by TV on the Radio
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £4.45
Not too shabby. A lovely mixture of sounds, including Bloc Party, Prince, Bowie etc etc...
If You're Feeling SinisterIf You're Feeling Sinister by Belle & Sebastian
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £3.78
For those quieter moments. Even Noiseniks need a night off the Noise occasionally. Beautiful music by a beautiful band.
It's a Shame About Ray: Collector's EditionIt's a Shame About Ray: Collector's Edition by The Lemonheads
Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £7.11
Written off as a bit of a posing rich kid at the time, the tunes don't lie though. Lovely mixture of pop and melancholy. "Ooh they spoilt the album by including Mrs Robinson"?, rubbish.
TodayToday by Galaxie 500
Buy new: £7.68 / Used from: £6.66
Dean can't sing, he's not a particularly good guitarist, Damon and Naomi are no better. So why do I still come back to this album 20 years later? Good question. Have a listen and let me know.
Melting PotMelting Pot by The Charlatans
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £0.49
So Tim can't "sing". Who cares? Saw em down Chinnery's 08/10/08, 300-ish capacity crowd. Bloody brilliant.
TEN (+ 3 Bonus Tracks)TEN (+ 3 Bonus Tracks) by Pearl Jam
Buy new: £2.98 / Used from: £2.49
I know this is just showing off, but hands up who was down the Esplanade for PJ's first gig outside the US? That'll be me and about 199 others. Amazing, to think I'd never heard of them at the time
