My Favourite Albums
O.K ComputerO.K Computer by Radiohead
Buy new: £6.08 / Used from: £0.94
A truly unbelievable piece of work. Never has any other album left me with such an incredible feeling of hope, desperation, beauty and, above all, the sense that I had just heard something remarkable.
Astral WeeksAstral Weeks by Van Morrison
Buy new: £6.08 / Used from: £2.76
A stunning album that runs OK Computer extremely close. One of the greatest examples of the singer-songwriter field.
The Queen Is DeadThe Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Buy used from: £5.49
The album that showed just what Morrissey and Marr could do, a brilliant lyrical and musical work that could have you laughing and crying within the first 15 minutes.
Blonde on BlondeBlonde on Blonde by Bob Dylan
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.30
Probably Dylan's finest hour, with songs such as Visions of Johanna and the epic Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands making this a phenomenal album.
Forever ChangesForever Changes by Love
Buy new: £5.58 / Used from: £2.30
Forever Changes is a timeless classic, a masterpiece by any standard, and grossly overlooked for other inferior 60s albums.
The Velvet Underground and NicoThe Velvet Underground and Nico by Velvet Underground
Buy new: £5.58 / Used from: £2.13
I can't say anything that hasn't already been said, so I won't. Just buy it.
DoolittleDoolittle by Pixies
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.50
Listen to any modern indie/rock album and you will hear traces of this album. It's incredible to think that it was released 2 years before I was born, it hasn't aged in the slightest.
BlueBlue by Joni Mitchell
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £1.30
The album that pioneered all female vocalists of the last 30+ years, Blue is a heartbreaking piece that you will always go back to.
Marquee MoonMarquee Moon by Television
Buy new: £5.38 / Used from: £1.18
My favourite album of the punk/post-punk era, and also one of the greatest guitar albums ever made. Oh, and the title track is extraordinary.
After the Gold RushAfter the Gold Rush by Neil Young
Buy new: £5.58 / Used from: £3.19
My favourite Neil Young album, his debut solo release holds some of his finest moments (After The Goldrush, Don't Let It Bring You Down etc)
Pet SoundsPet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £3.04
15 years ago, at the tender age of 3, my dad bought me my first album ever - Pet Sounds. And I can never thank him enough.
Blood on the TracksBlood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.77
The most open of Dylan's albums, Blood on the Tracks is a poignant reflection on his relationship with Sara, whom he was divorcing at the time. An all time classic.
Kid AKid A by Radiohead
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.44
An incredibly brave album following the success of OK Computer, Kid A pushed the boundaries of modern music - and with wonderful results.
Ziggy StardustZiggy Stardust by David Bowie
Buy new: £11.27 / Used from: £3.31
One of the greatest rock albums ever made, and probably the finest work by an incredible artist (although fans of Low and Hunky Dory may have a point).
RevolverRevolver by The Beatles
Buy new: £10.58 / Used from: £3.66
I could not go through this list without The Beatles, and I think that this is their greatest moment (much more than the vastly overrated Sgt Pepper, and just above Abbey Road)
HorsesHorses by Patti Smith
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.08
Punchy, deep, innovative, and, ultimately, just brilliant.
Safe as MilkSafe as Milk by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £2.49
Although Trout Mask Replica is probably greater in terms of innovation and influence, I admire it more than enjoy it. Safe As Milk is just quality.
London CallingLondon Calling by The Clash
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.44
The defining Clash album. The debut is perhaps edgier, but this is where they began to expand on punk, although the 2nd half of the album lets it down slightly.
The Village Green Preservation SocietyThe Village Green Preservation Society by The Kinks
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £6.72
Horrifically overlooked at the time, The Kinks' opus has finally garnered the attention it deserves. Better than 90% of The Beatles' albums.
Fun HouseFun House by The Stooges
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £2.84
The most complete work by the Godfathers of Punk.
Daydream NationDaydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.79
Who knew out of tune guitars could sound so good?
BerlinBerlin by Lou Reed
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.73
Panned at the time, this thought-provoking album has developed legendary status. Probably not the best for those prone to depression.
I Am a Bird NowI Am a Bird Now by Antony and the Johnsons
Buy new: £7.48 / Used from: £3.99
If Radiohead didn't exist, this would probably be the best album of the last 15 years. An incredible tale of a man's despair with his gender, led by one of the most beautifully strange voices ever.
Crooked Rain Crooked Rain [Special Edition]Crooked Rain Crooked Rain [Special Edition] by Pavement
Buy new: £12.69 / Used from: £5.99
One of the best albums of the 90s.
Roxy MusicRoxy Music by Roxy Music
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £5.48
Roxy Music's debut is their finest, before the loss of Eno and the descent into 'cheesiness'. Bar some of 'For Your Pleasure', it was downhill from here.
