This novel is often chosen for screen adaption because of the lack of over sentimentality. Read it and you see, however I found the segment with the Rivers was a low point.

This is the first "real" historical biography that I read, I did not know much about the period to begin with. I found the structure easy to deal with and the portrait of Emma Hamilton was sympatetic
