![]() | My Generation [Deluxe Edition] by The Who
Buy new: £8.98 / Used from: £7.61 This lot were THE main influence on The Jam in their early days. Looks, sound & instrument choice were all copped from The Who.
![]() | Who's Next by The Who
Buy new: £2.98 / Used from: £2.49 Probably their best album. Who compilations are best avoided, as they insist on bunging in inferior, late career stuff.
![]() | Itchycoo Park by Small Faces
Buy new: £3.97 / Used from: £0.94 Pretty much all the Small Faces anyone would ever really need. A huge influence on Weller.
![]() | The Ultimate Collection by The Kinks
Buy new: £8.47 / Used from: £4.49 This is a good place to start with The Kinks. Ray Davies' songwriting does merit a more completist approach though.
![]() | Revolver by The Beatles
Buy new: £7.92 / Used from: £5.83 Their most consistent album (Yellow Sub' notwithstanding). 'Taxman' was appropriated wholesale by The Jam & recycled as 'Start'.
![]() | The In Crowd by Various Artists
Okay, this is a huge, expensive box set. But it's interesting to note how much jazz the mods were into, this influence became apparent during The Style Council years.
![]() | Tamla Motown Gold: The Sound Of Young America by Various Artists
Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £5.49 pretty much every single released on Motown in the 60's. Essential, every home should have this.
![]() | The Clash by The Clash
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.99 You mentioned a liking for The Clash, get this and London Calling. In my humble opinion the compilations have too much filler.
![]() | London Calling by The Clash
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.10 Classic.
![]() | Mr. Tambourine Man/Turn Turn Turn/Fifth Dimension by The Byrds
Rickenbackers aside, this lot have no bearing on The Jam. But they're one of my favourite bands and this is a bargain. Later Byrds albums can get a bit self indulgent
![]() | Time Capsule: The Best Of Matthew Sweet by Matthew Sweet
Buy new: £11.48 / Used from: £4.99 Okay, we're onto stuff I like now. Put this on when you've got people round and they'll invariably say "who's this?". Most will then go out & buy his music. He's that good.
![]() | Pet Sounds: the Complete Album - Stereo/Mono by Beach Boys
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £2.89 Everybody puts this in their top album lists, why should I be an exception. Again, no home should be without it. Not much to do with The Jam though.
![]() | The Very Best Of Elvis Costello by Elvis Costello
Buy new: £9.49 / Used from: £4.22 Can't really single out just one of his albums, going to take the lazy option and recommend this.
![]() | Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £7.02 The man was a genius, you need these three albums......
![]() | Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £3.95 ......the rest of his stuff is okay....
![]() | Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Buy new: £7.98 / Used from: £3.50 ....but these are essential.
![]() | Feeling Strangely Fine by Semisonic
Buy new: £1.71 / Used from: £0.01 Brilliant.
![]() | What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Buy new: £2.98 / Used from: £2.74 You hear something new in this everytime you listen to it.
![]() | This Side by Nickel Creek
Buy new: £9.98 / Used from: £4.79 My favourite album of theirs, but they really need to be seen live.
