New album from the Bella Union stamp contains possibly the loveliest opening track you'll hear all year. Sweet, gorgeous songs with a few Waitsian blues stompers thrown in for good measure.

The man (and the mustache) behind The Hold Steady's piano released his debut solo effort and shows us all what a multi talented chap he is. Maybe not quite as good as his facial hair though.

Another one who calls Bella Union home, Andrew Bird is that rare thing; a skillful instrumentalist AND talented songwriter. A record of immense quality. And he whistles, which is always good!

DOOM may have dropped the MF, but he hasn't lost any of his skill or wit along with it. Ignore everything you've heard on daytime Radio 1; THIS is real hip hop.

Long awaited (by me at least) 3rd album from Editors. Tom Smith's incredible voice has never sounded as powerful as it does here over analogue synths and tight rhythms. A great step forward.

Soulful and tender album from Simone Felice of the Felice Brothers. Doesn't quite have the raw bite that makes his original band so extraordinary, but a good album non the less.

Fantastic soundtrack from Ms O and her little ones. Really raw; employing acoustic guitars, soft pianos and ramshackle percussion. Really fun (All Is Love), really heartfelt (Worried Shoes).
