How I stopped being a greedy pig with no effort at all!
I loved the idea of listening to a CD that would hypnotize me into losing weight because somehow I still believed that there was a cheater, short-cut way to lose weight. I didn't really believe that it would work and assumed that this would be money thrown away. Well, guess what? This is day 16 and I have lost 4 kilos. That is almost 9 pounds and I swear it was without effort. The book is a quick read, intelligent and to the point, but the CD that is included with it is even better. Everyone laughed at me when I told them what I was up to, including my husband who complained when I played it before I went to sleep, but no one is laughing now and they all want to borrow it. No chance! Buy your own! What it does is makes you want to drink water, do exercise (willingly!) and convince you that you can stop eating when you feel full and that you will feel satisfied with less. The hidden benefits are that it makes you feel wonderful, telling you what a great person you are and the relaxation bit is worth buying alone. My only problem is how to buy this as a present for people who might be insulted by the title of the book "I can make you slim". It's not like buying a novel for a birthday, is it.
Works for those it's written for!
It's interesting to see the variety of reviews on here: some people are amazed at the results they have experienced, others are complaining it hasn't helped them at all.
My mum and I have been using the book and CD since January- it's not worked for her at all, but I've lost a stone and a half. All I can conclude is that the success of McKenna's system must really depend on the reasons why you over-eat. If, like I used to, you comfort eat, or have obsessive eating habits (you have to eat at a certain time or eat food in a certain order), if you binge eat and starve yourself alternately, or have a grasping attitude towards food then this is definitely for you. The CD helps you to feel so much more relaxed around food and makes you pay close attention to what you are actually putting into your body- someone complained that a diet which says "eat what you want" can be nothing but dangerous but the fact is you end up actually wanting to eat the right things.
Alot of reviewers have complained that this is just basic common sense in a pretty package. Eat slowly, drink water, take exercise, eat when you're hungry, etc. Yes, it's obvious; but if simply knowing what is good for us was enough, no one would be overweight! As another reviewer has pointed out, it's not WHAT Paul McKenna is telling people in this book that makes it good. Of course it's all common sense. What makes it work is the way he motivates the reader. THAT is what you're paying for. It's all very well saying "take exercise? Well, duh!" but this book actually makes you WANT to take exercise, and enjoy it. It makes you WANT to eat healthy, natural food. It enables you to have TOTAL CONTROL over your eating habits. It makes you pause when you would usually turn to food and ask yourself why and what you are eating.
If this is what you need in order to lose weight, this will work for you. If not... perhaps you won't find it so helpful. If you don't want to waste your money, ask yourself before you buy it whether this system will deal with the reasons why you over-eat.
It works!
Unlike many others who have written a review, I have never dieted in my life and have been lucky to have been a naturally slim person right up until I was about 30. I now have a son of 9 and a daughter of nearly 7 and found I was still kidding myself that the few pounds I'd gained were just what you expect after a couple of kids and getting a bit older. That was until I found myself almost bursting out of my size 12 clothes and could no longer kid myself that it was a particularly small size 12 anyway!! I got on the scales to find I was 1 stone overweight and immediately set about reading the Paul McKenna weight-loss system which had been recommended to me.
Well, what a great way to lose weight. Not only have I lost 10 pounds in just 4 weeks, but everything in my wardrobe now fits comfortably and I feel great. I also do not feel I've deprived myself in any way. I've read a couple of the negative reviews which state its just common sense. We all know that, but some of us need something to kick-start us into using our common sense and Paul McKenna does that fantastically. He's not pretending its rocket science! He earns his money by being a fantastic motivator and good luck to him.
