Sublime
I bought one of these as a Christmas present for my better 'arf. I confess I blenched a bit at the thought of spending £90 on a radio, but in retrospect it was one of the best purchases I have made. We both listen to a *lot* of radio, and a quality product like this becomes a necessity, not a luxury or lifestyle choice.
The sound is superb, even from that little speaker. It's incredibly simple to operate: it tunes itself in when first turned on and all one needs to do is to twiddle the dialing knob to the station one wants and then press it. The presets are a godsend as well.
It comes with a timer function, and an alarm clock: unlike most radio alarms it doesn't lose its set time when unplugged, so you can take the radio around the house knowing you won't sleep in late the following morning.
What's more, it looks good: a clean, spare and elegant design that doesn't bother with useless gimmicks like flashing blue LED's. If you like to listen to your radio as the broadcaster intended, get one. You will not regret it.
Superb digital radio
The Pure Evoke-1xt looks very elegant and "human" with its rounded maple wood cabinet and aluminium speaker grille, handle, and silver plastic fascia.
This combination of clean wood and modern materials lends the relatively hi-tech device a warm and comforting feel.
The body sits on 4 small rubber feet and is relatively small and dinky.
The display is bright and clear, a 2 line white on blue LCD matrix displaying information such as station, song info, signal strength, time etc. It is easily legible at night time.
The controls are very easy to use, with large rotary dials. There is no tuning like analogue radio- instead the Pure finds all the stations available and then the user selects the station from a list by turning the dial, and then pressing the dial in to select the station.
The sound quality is very clear and akin to CD. There is no hiss because of the Xt's sound filtering circuits, as well as the digital signal. The speaker is reasonably bassy and dynamic and sing when whacked up, belittling its small size, and handles all types of music well.
Id recomend this radio to anyone as it is well designed, easy to use, and delivers good quality radio sound, and really does "evoke" a better atmosphere than the all-plastic radios that are commonplace today.
Pure were the first manufacturers to release a digital receiver at around £100 and this unit has been thoroughly reliable as I have owned it for over 14 months now.
I use this radio a lot, and is great to settle down with on a quiet night.
Inovative pure do it again
Pure have always been ahead in the dab radio market but with the evoke 1xt they have achieved true greatness. The wooden cased radio has a bright clear blue display to allow you to see the scrolling text which displays information on the program your currently listening to. The radio produces a crystal clear sound so no more crackle and hiss that you can get on the fm/am frequency. The radio has a one touch autotune to allow you to pick up all the dab stations available to you. If you want to listen to a particular station it's easy you just select it from the menu by name, no more selecting by frequency. The evoke 1xt features an alarm clock to allow you to wake up to your favourite radio station and it also has a handy kitchen timer. When you place the radio into sleep mode the radio display's the time back to you. Like everything there are a few problems in my mind with the radio one is that it is mains powered with no battery function, another is that it has no fm backup. As problems come in three's i will also mention that the radio is only mono sound not stereo, but this is not a major problem as not all dab programs are broadcast in stereo and two you can buy an extra speaker for around £30 pounds that will make the sound stereo. This is a fantastic radio made by the inovative pure digital company. I thouroughly recommend it even with the flaws. The reception quality is second to none and the sound is excellent. This will be the best £90 pounds you will ever spend but if you cannot put up with these flaws look at the evoke 2xt as this has an fm backup and it can be made to be battery powered with an additional chargepack. Well Done Pure.
