A machine that did not work1
I bought the machine online- a great mistake. At first it crashed (became unresponsive, requiring turning off at the power supply) a few times a week. Within a couple of months it was crashing every few minutes. Humax customer support were poor and they did not offer to replace the machine- they just gave instructions to reboot the machine in ever more complicated ways. It even crashed during rebooting! After three months we got a replacement from Humax that works, but we find it hard to trust the machine and are always pleasantly surprised when it can be turned on. After two weeks use the new machine is still working well.If you really must buy this machine, make sure that it is from a shop where it can be returned rapidly and easily if faulty.

Well pleased5
I was originaly going to order the Thompson DVR for £80 but was put off by the reviews on Amazon. I received this DVR very quickly after ordering and have so far been very pleased. I'm new to the whole "sky plus" thing so was amazed to find that you just have to use the "guide" (just like on your freeview box), push OK on the remote, and that's it ! It will record for you.
Yes it does make a noise. It sounds a bit like a washing machine out in the kitchen, but it's got a hard drive and a fan (both of which are mechanical devices), so it is bound to make some noise. You soon get used to it.
I never heard anyone complain about whirring noises back in the 80's when VCRs were the "must have" gadget.
I would reccomend this, especialy to people who have traditionaly shy'ed away from programing their videos, it realy is a piece of cake !

Started off well... now less impressive!3
I have had this recorder for 18 months with few problems, just the occasional 'freeze' whereby the plug needs to be pulled just to get the picture going again, but I have heard about this from other recorders so can't blame it totally on this one. Up until recently we were very pleased with it..easy programme guide, easy to set the timer, all very intuitive.
However beware when the memory becomes almost full..it says it has recorded the programme, then when you check the details of the programme you thought you'd recorded it says 0KB and there's nothing there. Recently it has started recording programmes with the wrong title..what it does is it duplicates the title of a recording already on the hard drive and overwrites it! The other night I recorded the football and it called it 'the snowman' thus wiping my original recording of 'the snowman' that I wanted to keep! Weird! The memory is 90 per cent full but even so I wouldn't have thought that would be a problem. Is it just my machine that's faulty or has anybody else experienced this?
