101 Great Ideas, poor results
For those of you who weren't there, the 70's were the height of everything Disco, the songs were great. Great to listen to, great to dance to. Now from '101' we have the greatest disco anthems.....or do we? It was no surprise to find Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive' probably the best example of a truly classic disco hit from the era but we don't get the original version here. We get a re-recording where sometimes Gloria seems to be using a slightly different tune to accompany the words. This and a few other tracks make the album appear to be one of those 'Top of the Pops' albums you used to get from Woolworths for 99p for those of us who couldn't afford to buy all the singles. I think someone thought it would be a great idea for a an addition to the '101' collection but then promptly got bored and just threw any old versions in the collection. For me it doesn't matter so much as I have either the single or 12" versions anyway but if I didn't have them I'd've been disappointed to say the least at this. I'm awarding it 4 stars because of the price and for the songs that are original versions, of which there are many. With ten more minutes spent on this album, it could have been the ultimate Disco collection. It would help in future if the producers could state whether the songs are original or re-recordings because I'd hate to think you were buying this set, expecting great things. But, all in all, it's still good value for money - especially now you know what to expect.
disco
Item has every music on from all to new - came on time and well packed
Found It.
Surprised by the title, let me explain, I was looking for The Detroit Emeralds Feel the need in me on compilation for sometime and to my surprise found it on this as well as a number of other gems.
As compilations go this is a good collection but like me you probaly have much of the content on other discs already.
