This is simply the most comprehensive book on pike fishing ever
written

Synopsis
Few pike anglers can claim to be equally at home when fishing rivers, lakes, gravel pits and lochs. Many can boast a mastery of one type of water, but only someone who has fished as widely and exhaustively as Paul Gustafson can have gained the ability to catch specimen fish consistently from all four. With unique rigs of his own devising, items of tackle of his own invention and scientific discoveries about what pike see and how they can detect without using their eyesight, the author has broken down the barriers of man's knowledge of the species and opened the door to new techniques. A pioneer of night fishing for pike, with remarkable success, he is a firm believer that barometric pressure with light levels play an important part in determining their movements, even to the point whereby success and failure on a given water can be predicted by studying the weather. As a skilled angler, Paul shows us how to choose and use the most effective tackle to catch this beautiful predator and as an experienced naturalist he gives us a fascinating insight into how a pike lives, moves and seizes its prey.

By reading this book, anyone can develop a technique that will enable them to catch bigger pike when fishing in any location. It is an inspirational guide to the species that will have everyone going back to their sport with renewed enthusiasm and considerably more potential for success

Great book if you use bait to catch pike3
This is a wonderful book if you fish for Pike on gravel pits or rivers (or lochs and lakes) using live or dead baits. The author is extremely knowledgeable and the book is jam-packed with of tips for catching bigger Pike. He clearly knows his stuff and his writing is clear and simple and entertaining. I enjoyed reading it immensely and shall be using his tips when the season opens again.

However, I am a lure fisherman and fish rivers from the bank. The author is not a lure fisherman and only appears to use live or dead baits. The book contains one poorly written chapter about lure fishing written by a guy called Gord Burton and the first few pages just seem to name drop millions of different types of lures. The rest of the chapter is about "unbelievably big Pike" "smashing" or "slamming" into his lures in "unbelievable numbers". All the lure fishing seems to take place from boats on large Canadian/American lakes and lure fishing on rivers is not touched. I was very disappointed indeed.

On the upside quite a bit of the information regarding the habits of Pike covered in the rest of the book will be very useful for lure fisherman, but I'd have liked to have seen a lot more about types of lures used at different times of year, how to us them and the corresponding topology of rivers with regards to Pike habits and habitat, again at different times of the year.

There is a short chapter about fly-fishing for Pike written by Mick Willis and Bob Church which is interesting and well written.

I have to admit I did get very bored of seeing photos of the author holding his latest big Pike catch.

excellent read with good tips for catching better pike.4
This is a great book about pike & pike fishing. It covers

Rods,Reels & Line. Terminal Tackle Tools & Accessories Pike Bait Gravel Pits & Lakes Rivers Rigs Night Fishing Travelling Boats Lochs & Loughs Ethics & the Future

These topics are explained well & there are a good few diagrams to help out. The book is also littered with fantastic pike the Author caught.

I would have liked it more technical (though I doubt it would help catch bigger pike) & more spent on Lures & less on live baiting.

but the books still excellent & worth every penny.

Great book5
Great book if you love bait fishing for pike, well written and fab photos and a bargin price if you chose the right seller.
