Manufacturer's Description
The EF70-200mm /f2.8L IS USM delivers the same exceptional level of optical performance as the EF70-200mm /f2.8L USM, which has won strong support among professional and high-end amateur photographers. The new IS unit utilizes improved holding for the barrel of the supplementary optical system that provides smoother movement, achieving image stabilizing effects equivalent to approximately three stops. Additionally, the EF70-200mm /f2.8L IS USM is equipped with a new compact, lightweight, high-performance vibration gyro that, combined with improved signal processing circuits, makes possible image stabilization within approximately 0.5 seconds upon pressing the shutter button halfway. The EF70-200mm /f2.8L IS USM also employs an optical design offering compatibility with digital SLR cameras and utilizes an optical system made entirely from environmentally friendly lead-free glass.

If you want the best...5
You simply won't better this mid-range zoom from Canon. Yes, it's an L series pro lens, but even for this superb level of engineering, image quality is stunningly sharp throughout the full focal range, and build quality is near enough bomb proof. For candid portrait work, the lens is simply in a class of it's own. I find this, and my 24-70mm f/2.8L USM are the two lenses that live on my EOS 5D for 95% of the time. It carries a typical Canon price tag, but really is worth every penny!

Amazing, it's like cheating at photography!5
I cannot get over the useability of this lens. I have been a photographer for over 21 years and this a revelation. I have used Hasselblads. Nikon hi end 35mm and digital and this lens combined with a Canon eos 10d 20d 30 5d etc is a dream to use. It is fast, accurate and silent, magic! It flatters the most average photographer. I borrowed it for a weekend and did not want to give it back. Needless to say, I am now saving up for one. I have to use Nikons at work, but lenses like this are worth changing systems for!

Canon Blows Away The Opposition!5
Fantastic photography lens! This Canon lens has a feel of unrivalled quality. Its solid, and workman like construction is matched by it's incredible image quality. However, being built like a tank lends itself to the issue of excessive weight and like an over indulged festive reveller it might possibly benefit from the loss of a few pounds. Holding a camera with this lens attached can lead to a strenuous shoot and for some quite possibly some shaky shots. Nonetheless, do not despair its image stabiliser more than makes up for such weight issues as it really works incredibly well allowing hand held shutter speeds of 1/80, no problem. The wide aperture of f2.8 is fab and throws the background out of focus isolating it from the importance of the subject. I would unreservedly recommend this lens to wedding and portrait photographers as it further distinguishes your work from that of the public. Shoot away, its what a canon was made for!
