Fantastic Mobile Internet Device!5
I ordered my PocketSurfer2 not knowing what to expect. I was blown away when I opened it and started using it.

You get 20 hours of free surfing each month, which is sufficient for a mobile device. From this you can surf anything - but cant't watch online videos.

The keyboard is quite similar to the Motorola RAZR mobile phone, I wouldn't be surprised if it was made by the same people. You use your thumbs to use it.

The screen is adequete for the purpose, it is not the same as a laptop display. But you can change the settings and keep it on highest, And you'll need to do this for each session. But once you've done that the screen is fine.

The input is just a 4 arrow mouse, press the left arrow, the cursor moves left. Press the top arrow the cursor moves up - and so on.

The quality of the device is actually pretty good, I do though think it would be wise to invest in a case. You do get a suede carry bag included!

To conclude, I think the PocketSurfer2 is a excellent device for surfing the internet and sending/recieving emails, and it does this fast and free. If you want to be able to surf the internet anywhere, anytime, for no cost. Then this is the device for you.

I highly reccommend the PocketSurfer2 as a mobile internet device.

Not smart enough3
I've had the PS2 for about 3 months and as a gadget it has an appeal which isn't matched by the practical demands of web surfing in 2007. Rather like the first mobile phones - remember yours? - it is a desirable object and it is fascinating to log on anywhere to the GPRS server and get on to most web sites within 3 - 5 seconds with no need for a wi-fi hotspot. In reality the small screen and constant need to scroll vertically and horizontally to see the full page is tedious. The colours are bleached out and there is no sound as the OS won't accept any of the the usual Windows add ons. The single most annoying aspect is the virtual absence of any capacity to save to the device. There is no right-hand mouse button and no storage I've discovered on the device. You can join a free web-based storage scheme, but how do you save files from the device? An obvious addition would be an SD card slot or a USB port for a memory stick/external drive - its a weird omission. The included 20 hours a month ISP access is more than adequate, but I'm already wondering if I'll bother to fork out £40+ to continue access in a year's time. Given the recent up-grades in mobile phone net access, especially the Blackberry, I can't see PS2 grabbing a significant market share in its current form. If they added phone capacity we'd be left with a device already twice the size of most mobiles. So, its a bit of conundrum. Will someone come up with a device that includes net access, multi-media player/recorder and a phone at a reasonable price? Meanwhile, PS2 is yesterday's technology tomorrow ...but it still exerts a strange fascination.

an intriguing gadget but barely usable in practice2
The idea is great. Probably one day they will make a version that works.

But at the moment the connection speed is terrible, the connection frequently fails, and the keyboard is so awful that even typing a three-sentence email usually fails and the device resets.

The price of 3G-compatible phones has fallen so far that anyone who wants reliable internet on the move will undoubtedly choose one of those instead.
