As a gift
I bought this item as a gift, so this is not a user's review. It's definitely suitable for a geocacher who is trekking over rough ground and is liable to drop it - the hard case will protect the contents if it's dropped on rocky ground, or if it rolls down a slope. However it has a very long closing edge which is not waterproof. If you carried it in heavy rain or dropped it in a puddle it would quickly fill up with water, so it's best used with waterproof equipment inside. There is no space inside for spare batteries or anything else besides a handheld gps device - but this does mean it will probably fit in the side pocket of a rucksack or in a medium-to-large coat pocket. It would be excellent for protecting fragile equipment in dry but harsh conditions. If I were using it myself I would want a long lanyard with it, to wear over one shoulder and across the chest, as I wear my camera cases, and I'm surprised that no lanyard comes with it, and that no optional long lanyard is offered in association with it.
