Two gangland legends in candid and shocking conversation
This book was not what I expected.

Not an autobiography by any standard, it combines two Gangland legends and relates their tales and feelings in recorded conversations over a period of time. Fred comes across as his naturally amusing and vastly experienced self, with Tony cast as the knowledgeable listener throughout the first part of this book.

As events unfold in real time during this recorded period, we get an intensely personal look into these two characters. Tony Lambrianou opens up spectacularly, his true feelings and opinions on his sacrifice for the Kray firm coming to the fore in an emotionally-charged section. Freddie also lets us in to his emotions too when he relates his experience at the deathbed of Reggie Kray and the moment when Reg passed away. This throws up many previously untold details about the tensions caused at that time.

Their conversation threw up some previously unrecorded events and actions too. Some I found shocking. I won't spoil the book by relating them, but you will be surprised! Both also comment on the fan culture that has sprung up around sixties gang members and the way they are imitated today.

A must-read for the student of sixties gangland culture as it adds so much to the books already published by many of those people, and a must-read for true crime fans too.
