Spinning and turning of the wheel
No doubting, Dave Courtney is a great talker, a great showman. But as for being the self-proclaimed hardest on the streets of London go, it is all showmanship. What of the likes of Roy Shaw's book, Pretty Boy, he doesn'g go round flexing his jaw muscles. Joe Pyle's book Notorious is in stark contrast to this book, a book of the real hard man.
All credit to Dave, he's a great story teller and in a different era he would have outsold the Brothers Grimm, but he will not come close to those in the position of real power by trying to come across as the man on the street with savvy about what is going on.
But that is all Dave is, a story teller. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book, but there is only so much of the same I can take. In person, Dave puts on a great show, but in book form he comes across as one dimensional, but still a nice man.
100% Brilliant
EXCELLENT STUFF and the best book I have read since Till Death Us Do Part BY Garry Jackson...and that believe me is a TRIBUTE.
Dave Courtney has got to be the best storyteller since Charles Dicken...I have seen his two movies and he is also a great actor.
He would be 100% BTRILLIANT as fictional gangster Harery Harris in the movie version of TILL DEATH US DO PART...
Not as good as his other books.
Ive got all of Daves books, and whilst i take the stories with a pinch of salt sometimes, i really enjoy his unique style of writing and get loads of enjoyment out of them. Ive read them all several times now and still laugh at some of the stories and situations he writes about.
Unfortunately this book just didnt seem to work for me. He re-told some previous stories he had written in other books and for some reason, the book didnt seem as funny or enjoyable as his other ones. In fact, i really struggled to finish this one.
If you are thinking of buying this one as your first Courtney book, then I wouldnt, id highly recommend his earlier books, my favourite bring "Raving Lunacy" which has me in stitches everytime i read it.
