Editorial Reviews

CD Description
Fourth album from the New York state indie rockers, who have evolved over time from an emo-pop-punk act towards a darker, more broadly alternative rock sound. This album, the follow-up to 2007's 'The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me', has been described by the band as "dense" and more representative of their live sound. It includes the single 'At The Bottom' and has already received a glowing review from Rock Sound based solely on an incomplete 30-minute sampler.

Daisy... wow5
Brand New are my favourite band and so I was super excited about this record. I have to say when I heard it the first time I was a bit disappointed... but it grew on me and by the third play I was totally hooked!

If you've never heard Brand New before, I'd advise starting at the beginning so you can see just what a transformation they've gone through. They truly live up to their name - every album from them is from a completely new perspective and, if you compare this to Your Favorite Weapon, a new genre. They have grown up enormously - there are no awkward love stories here, no adolescent anecdotes. It's a dark, deep, melancholy, exhausting record and it just hits you that much harder.

The music itself has become more screamy, but the motif of the old-fashioned female singer undercuts this and keeps their songs from being samey. The first track - Vices - is a fantastic way to begin because it is so refreshing and different to their previous stuff - it really makes you think twice. My favourite songs at the moment are Daisy, Sink and Noro.

It's not a question of if you buy it, it's when. Brand New fans - you won't be disappointed. Prospective listeners - you need this band in your life.

Keeps getting better!!!!5
As one of the many die hard fans that have followed the band since ' Your Favourite Weapon' it is always nerve racking waiting for a new album praying not to be disappointed. Yet again Brand New have blown any doubt clearly out of the water as yet again have produce an amazingly original album. It, like the last album, has taken a darker route which only emphasise the lyrical skill this band have always possessed. Gasoline is one of my personal favourites and I cannot wait to hear the whole album live like many fans Im sure. You will not be disappointed....I promise!

After 'Deja Entendu', and 'The Devil and God are raging inside me', it was perhaps a little too easy to expect another masterpiece from Brand New. Very rare does a band make 3 great albums in a row, and with Brand New, it seemed possible, that they could better the last 2. Sadly 'Daisy' does not do this. It says something about the current music scene that this is still one of the best albums of the year, and Brand New are still way ahead of any other bands in their genre (whatever genre it is now), and no doubt will be for some time.

'Daisy' continues what their last album started. The tone of the album is very similar, with an even more raw sound to it. In places, they are heavier than they have ever been, with some critics comparing them to Nirvana. The album has a very strange feel to it, from the insanely good intro, right through to the outro. For me, "Vices", "Gasoline", and "You Stole" are the highlights, but none of the songs disappoint.

The songs feel quite short, I imagine they will expand them when played live, but on record, it finishes a little too quickly, and as a result, doesn't have as much of an impact as their previous albums.

So while this doesn't match up to DE and TAGARIM, this is still a damn good record, and better than anything else out at the moment. If you're a Brand New fan, you'll have this already, for people who aren't fans, you really should be.
