Product Description

Wolfenstein brings the Nazi's dark obsession with the occult to life with epic action and harrowing shooter combat. Use a powerful arsenal of both definitive and occult-enhanced Axis and Allied weapons to beat back a supernatural Nazi force that is full of surprises.

You play as BJ Blazkowicz, a highly decorated member of the Office of Secret Actions (OSA). You are sent on a special mission into the heart of the Reich to investigate evidence that the Nazis may possess a new and mysterious power.

While behind enemy lines, you discover the Nazis have done much more than develop a new toy. The Nazis are harnessing the power of the Black Sun through a dark parallel dimension called The Veil, in order to create a weapon of war-ending mass destruction. You are the only one that can stop them and save the world from their perverse domination.

Doesn't live up to its classic status3
PC version. Great game that is spoilt by being obviously developed for multiple platform compatibility. The graphics, though not bad, are not up to current PC standards, not as good as Crysis. You can't use your mouse buttons, apart from 1&2, probably because it's made for Playstation. The game play is fun and it has some good features. The early stages are incredibly un-challenging! It's definitely not worth paying the opening price... wait till it's on special offer, under a tenner, unless you don't care. It's a shame as this could have been brilliant, and it should be, as the original is a part gaming history...

A good but not brilliant game3
Ok so first up, it is a Wolfenstein game - shooting lots of Nazis with huge dash of the occult. So what's not to like?
Well, first up, the porting from a console based game with level saves is hugely frustrating to a pc gamer. It's not nearly as creepy as RtCW (think of the Crypt levels!). Whilst being allowed a certain amount of freedom as to where to go (thanks a bundle Oblivion, Stalker etc - not!) it's extremely frustrating. To the guys at ID/Raven- this is a FPS so code it accordingly!!
Graphics are not fantastic. I'm going to reply RtCW to see if the graphics have improved or not. This may be me having simply been spoiled by Crysis.
I'm still not decided about the Black Market element. After all if you kill someone who has a better weapon, why not simply be able to pick it up? Being self healing is also a bit poo. Med kits are the way to go!
In summary, worth playing if you've nothing else on the go but not nearly as good as RtCW

Return to Return to Wolfenstein?2
With a big name such as "Wolfenstein", you can't help but have high expectations. Being the grandfather of the First Person Shooter, the original Wolfenstein 3D really broke many boundaries. But does Wolfenstein contribute to this legacy? Erm ...... no.

I knew, within an hour of playing, that this was not a step forward. Heck, it was almost even a step backwards (and many would even prefer Return to Castle Wolfenstein to this). Everything about the game just feels ... outdated. The graphics engine feels about 3 years old with low resolution textures everywhere. Granted, the game runs pretty smoothly, but with an engine that is this outdated, how could it not? Also aiming with a mouse and moving around feels ... odd. Like so many PC games these days, they are released on consoles too and this always leaves its mark on the quality. In this case, all controls in general were clearly designed for gamepad.

But there's plenty of other aspects that displease me: regenerating health, no leaning left or right, very poor AI, the use of checkpoints, auto-aim is turned on by default, etc. There's also a lack of attention to detail. There's Dutch posters hanging on the wall in German cities, there's nazi banners *everywhere* while any WWII buff knows that was not the case. Also, the game takes away the fun of finding items: they all glow and shine to make sure you don't miss them (which makes you wonder who would leave a bag of gold in the open in the first place).

In the end this is a polished but mediocre FPS. Its console influences really did it a lot more harm than good - I can't even say it's better than Return to Castle Wolfenstein which is nearly 8 years old!
