Review
''Kids' imagination will run away with the Bear on a Bike...The diverse and colourful vocabulary will stimulate young readers. Quirky drawings by Debbie Harter, depicting mischievous babies on the beach and tongue-lolling tired dogs all add to the fun' --Observer
'Bear on his bike will be right at home on your child s book shelf alongside such wonders as Bear in Sunshine and Bear At Home. This delightful series places Bear in everyday situations, bringing fun and good humour into the lives of his friends and proving once more that the children s book publishing sector is every bit as lively and as professional as its grown up counterpart' --London Cyclist Magazine
'Beautifully illustrated in great detail. This happy story is full of joy and excitement... Young children will learn a lot about friendship and caring from this charming story' --Early Years Educator
About the Author
On good days, Stella Blackstone lives east of the sun and west of the moon. On less good days, she lives at the bottom of a well. She finds ideas in all of these places and turns them into songs, poems and rhymes. She has read and written poetry for as long as she can remember, and her favourite books include Louis Untermeyer's A Child's Treasury of Poetry, which was a constant companion throughout her childhood, Paolo Coelho's The Alchemist, everything by T.S. Eliot, and William Buck's translation of The Ramayana. She lives in southwest England, and enjoys walking and working in her garden as well as doing nothing whenever she has the chance. Debbie Harter was born and raised in England, and she currently lives in Penzance, Cornwall. She has participated in all kinds of artistic ventures, creating jewellery, textiles, ceramics, mirrors and candles. Now Debbie works primarily in book illustration, and with her bold and vibrant style, has created many of Barefoot Books' most successful titles, including Herb, the Vegetarian Dragon (1999), The Animal Boogie (2000) and the best-selling Bear series.
Customer Reviews
This book is excellent!
I bought the paperback version about 2 years ago and I'm now sending it to nieces and nephews as a gift. It's a short book in which a boy follows the bear on various modes of transportation on small adventures to different places. My sons were 3 and 1 1/2 when I first read it to them and they loved the fanciful rhyming and the simple but colourful illustrations. Both of them quickly memorized most of the book and took turns "reading" it to me and my husband. Little ones will get LOTS of enjoyment out of this book.
Great book and wonderful illustrations!
I saw this being read during the Tweenies program, and noticed my daughter liking it very much. I then bought it and haven't regretted it for a single moment! The text & rhymes are lovely, but the pictures are absolutely outstanding. There's so many things to point at, and even after months I keep finding new ones! I am now buying the other books in this bear series; hopefully they'll be as good!
great pictures
This is my son's favourite book.Given half a chance he would have it read several times a night! He adores the pictures. There are so many details to look at he is always finding new things to point out. All of his first words are things in this book. I have bought one of the others in the series in the hope that we might get some variety at bed time!
