Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Hailing from the same University Of London digs as Coldplay, and reaching for the mantle of Yank-inflected indie-rock when nu-metal is in the ascendancy, youthful Brit-rock four-piece My Vitriol should really have found this debut album business a bit of an uphill struggle. Somewhat surprisingly, though, they've delivered the goods; at its best, Finelines suggests the dynamic scissor-kick choruses and sleek power-pop of the Foo Fighters, as envisaged through the effects pedals of My Bloody Valentine sound-alchemist Kevin Shields--the spirit of shoegazing spiked with guts, adrenaline and adolescent fantasies of towering walls of noise. Thankfully, too, this is far more substantial than many debut albums; more than just a smattering of hit singles amid a sea of filler, Finelines is pieced together by slick segues and thoughtful sequencing. Even the effortlessly pop moments, such as roller-coaster-grunge peaks "Always: Your Way" and "Losing Touch", don't show up the occasional mellow forays into creeping-feedback guitar ambience. Any criticisms? Only that the reedy vocals of frontman Som Wardner lack a certain soul, making the actual emotional viscera of Finelines a little indirect. Still, on the basis of this fine debut, there's no reason why My Vitriol couldn't be serious "Voice of a Generation" contenders. --Louis Pattison

Customer Reviews

The best album to come out of the death of Brit pop!!!5
This is by far one of the greatest yet highly under-rated albums to kick off the 21st century. I cannot find one track on the album that I dislike in any way, shape or form as it is quite simply amazing! Grunge and indie music make a magical combination set in stone so brilliantly by My Vitriol. A MUST HAVE BUY!!! ... If only they would hurry up and make another album soon!!!

Essential album for a rock music fan's collection4
Well worth buying if u can get hold of a copy. Finelines is one of those albums that you just cant skip a track. The instrumental parts, especially tongue tied, are pure audio pleasure and the last track is the best end to an album I've ever experienced. If you play guitar you'll want to get yourself a capo and the tabs for the songs, and if you play drums, pump up the volume, i guarentee that you'll enjoy playing along, not that just listening to the album is stimulating enough, especially when played in order.

My five favourite songs from the album:
Always; your way
The gentle art of choking
Grounded
Tongue tied
Pieces

Between the lines; the b-sides are just typical b-sides but is worth getting as it is nicley broken up by the live tracks and the live version of the highly recognisable always; your way as well as the single moodswings.

I cant decide who My Vitriol sound like and i suppose thats quite a good thing. Forgive me in srtuggling and saying that maybe that they are in between Ash and Sparta?!?! but describing their specific style is quite challenging

I recommended this album to anyone with an interest in this kind of music and i certainly enjoy it

The one album you should own.5
I should really stop with the title of this review. That's it. Pure and simple. Loud and clear. This album is that good that I honestly don't know how I lived without it. Describing their style is difficult as there is absolutely nothing that compares. They are very original. I really could write on and on but I don't think I can tell you with words just how good it really is. IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD! And that's as close as I can get to it. Just buy it and you will understand.
