DVD Description
CHiPS, which stands for California Highway Patrols, first aired in the 1970s and became a massive ratings success, combining action, melodrama and comedy in the daily lives of two state motorcycle officers patrolling the freeway system in sun-drenched Los Angeles. Officer Jon Baker (played by Larry Wilcox) is the straight-laced, serious character while Frank "Ponch" Poncherello (played by cheesy yet loveable Erik Estrada) is the more free-wheeling member of the duo. Throughout the show’s run, episodes ranged from the humorous (such as helping a stranded motorist) to the tragic (a multi-car pile-up with multiple deaths) to the downright bizarre (using a circus elephant to tow a broken-down truck!). Other aspects of Ponch and Jon's daily lives weave through the series, with the social activity of both officers (they’re single) providing many lighter moments. And on occasion, Ponch and Jon are assisted by a female "Chippie", initially played by the beautiful Sindy Cahill.

For the first time all 22 episodes from the first season of CHiPS are released together on DVD, with six discs in the collection and bonus extras, including the original pilot episode and extended opening sequence/music.

Synopsis
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, two Los Angeles-based highway patrolmen rode into the living rooms and imaginations of millions of TV viewers. So much so, that the sight of Ponch (Erik Estrada) and Baker (Larry Wilcox) straddling their magnificent machines has become an iconic image in television history. This release includes the entire first series of the crime-fighting show.

Great memories
Fantastic. Every bit as good as I remembered. I was knocked of my own bike earlier this year and been watching this to cheer myself up whilst immobile. Worked a treat.....

Fun, laughter, drama and great entertainment.
This is a great "feel good" buddy cop TV show and Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada have great on-screen chemistry.

I hadn't seen this show since its original broadcast and couldn't even remember much from the show so this was a blind purchase for me. Wow! I'm really glad I bought this Season 1 DVD as now I'm hooked and have become a fan. I like how each episode focuses on the real streets and highways of Los Angeles (no rear projection in this show!) and I do like all the on-location shots of sunny Los Angeles throughout the episodes.

I like "Ponch's Police Tips" which is a short introduction by Erik Estrada of the epsiode with a bit of trivia. These are available for 13 episodes and are selected from the menu. I hate how Warner Home Video does NOT include the epsiode titles on the DVD menus and instead there are just numbers of the epsiodes (WHV do this for their other TV shows on DVD too).

The picture quality of the episodes is very good and generally looks clear and sharp. The 22 episodes are on 6 single-sided DVDs.

This show is fantastic - it's got stunts, drama, humour, laughs, entertainment and great stories! Can't wait for the Season 2 DVD which I have read is even better than this Season 1. Season 2 also has the improved funky disco opening theme tune which I've seen on youtube.
