Great book on how spot fake watches
I could have saved a bundle if I had this book a few years ago, It has some great chapters on how to spot fake Rolex and Breitling watches. I would never buy another used Rolex without taking me book along.
The history was good, Rolex was started here in London, It explains how the company was formed and how the name Rolex came about, Rolls Royce & Timex to make Rolex.
The Breitling history was great, it showed how Breitling was part of the war and which side wore and awarded the watches.
A bit of a suprize was also the history of some of the other makes Ball, Cartier, Longines, Omega, Patek philippe, IWC and Zenith.
The author seem to have a bit of laugh, he has included half a dozen jokes on rolex watches.
The last pages he pays a tribute to a Hans Wilsdorf, he's the bloke who started Rolex.
Overall the book is a bit of alright.
Great history on watches. I could not put it down.
What a nice book, It started with Rolex history and how the comapny was formed, how each watch became to be produced and events in history marked by the Rolex company. I am not into Breitling watches, I think they are too large and OTT. However the history was very interesting, and I am now a small fan of the watches.
I did not put the book down, once I started to read it, and now use it as a reference book on how to detect fake Rolex watches. The sections on how to spot fake watches are the best I have seen, and probalby the only book written on the subject. Fakes seem to be everywhere and its nice to have a book on how to identify them.
The bad points, The book only has black and white pictures, although to be fair to the author, many of the pictures such as the famous German air ace Red Baron and his Fokker tri-plane would have been in black and white.
I recommend to anyone who is going to buy a used Rolex or Breitling, or just wanting to the history.
Good value for money.
If you want a nice book with great history facts on Breitling and Rolex, then this is it. the pitures are black and white and some are not the best quality, but the book makes up for that in the facts. The quality of some of the pictures is not the best I have seen either.
I have approx 20 books on watches, (Yes I am sad) this book is written in a very diferent way, it even contains some jokes on Rolex and Breitling, the author seems to have a dry sense of humor, that comes out from time to time.(No pun intended)
The title is OK, but it does not inform the buyers on the great sections on how to avoid buying replica watches. Here I feel is where the book gets 10 out of 10. If you are considering buying a Rolex or Breitling, I would encourage you to get this from the library or buy it. It could save you thousands.
