Wristwatches are 'micromarvels' of engineering that attract the attention of collectors, investors and regular wearers alike. Cult Watches is a lavishly illustrated account of the world's most popular classic timepieces-the top 30 that have achieved cult status, from the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona and Cartier Tank to Ingersoll Mickey Mouse watches and the 'quartz revolution' Swatches. Watch-Industry expert Michael Balfour introduces the great horological innovators and their legacies, and adds historical asides that enhance our understanding of both their contexts and their enduring attractions. Future contenders for the status of cult watch are not forgotten, with the result that this book features hundreds of watches in words and pictures.

Customer Reviews
Eclectic mix of watches
This is a very interesting book to dip into and covers an eclectic mix of watches from the Rolex Submariner, Breitling Navitimer and Omega Speedmaster to Ingersoll Character (i.e. Mickey Mouse) watches and Swatches as well. Each gets several pages setting out information on the brand/manufacturer and the cult watch itself, with very good colour photographs.
Might turn you into a watch collector!
Any sort of "Top 10" list or similar will always provoke a bit of discussion, and for watch connoiseurs, this book will be no different, but that's not always such a bad thing!
This volume is essentially an author's view of the 30 most iconic 'cult' watches. Watch lovers will enjoy the sumptuous photography, the pen-portraits of how these watches came into being, and how they acquired their cult-status. These classics include many of the usual suspects such as the Rolex Submariner and the Omega Speedmaster, as well as some more unexpected ones like the Mondaine Railway watch.
People new to watches will love the direction it gives to appreciating the most significant watches ever made, while more seasoned watch lovers may enjoy using the book to plan their next purchase..! ;-)
