Product Description
Walk! Madeira has been researched and written for the active leisure walker with a range of routes ranging from easy to moderately challenging that are easily accesible by bus or hire car. There is so much good walking on Madeira it is impossible to include everything in one book, so we have not included the classic Arierro - Pico Ruivo - Encumeada route as it requires pre-booked transport for the start and finish. Similarly Walk 28 Grass Bridge could be extended to Curral das Freitas, see Madeira Tour & Trail Map and updates on Discovery Walking Guides website. For more walking routes designed for active leisure walkers see Shirley Whitehead's Madeira Walks.

Customer Reviews
no problems on the routes we walked
We used Walk Madeira and the Tour & Trail Map during our two week break in November. Everything worked fine on the ten routes we walked, directions were clear and accurate.
I would have liked to see some more high altitude routes such as Ariero to Encumeada or Encumeada to Curral das Freiras, but perhaps I'm being a bit picky as all the mid range walks worked for us
Spiral binding is terrific for folding open at the pages you need and then slipping it into a pocket; a really useful feature.
Do get the Madeira Tour & Trail Super-Durable Map whichever walking book you choose. Its both accurate and very durable, keeping us relatively dry when we were caught out in a downpour; I just shook the water off afterwards and folded it up like new.
Accurate, easy to follow and inspiring
This is an essential book for walking in Madeira. We liked the style of the descriptions and were impressed by the accuracy - no getting lost! The range of walks was useful, with choices of walks of varying difficulty and length etc. We would heartily recommend this to anyone wanting to walk on the island, newcomers and returning visitors alike.
Walk Madeira
I don't think the directions in this book are as clear as the authors would have you believe, despite a couple of pages that pick holes in other walking guide publications. We found it very hard to follow some of the routes particularly in urban areas where levadas went across roads or went underground for sections. The ideas for the walks are good, the spiral bound format is good. Its just the holes in the directions that let it down for us. We found the Sunflower Books 'Madeira car Tours and Walks' better. We have kept that for our next visit and binned the Walk Madeira.
