Customer Reviews

That's a good one...3
i see the cover of this CD states that it's "Simply the Best" by Olivia Newton John, and furthermore, it's also her "Greatest Hits"...which has to be as far from the truth as you can get. "Greatest Hits"? So that means that Physical, Landslide, Magic, Xanadu, A Little More Love, and all the songs from Grease can't have been real hits, as none of them appear on this cheeky compilation. Very informative, I'm sure.

But before you run off laughing, can I draw your attention to the fact that the songs which ARE featured here are actually very nice. Mainly because Olivia has such a bewitching and sublime voice, her renditions of "The Air That I Breathe", "If", "No Regrets", "If You Could Read My Mind" and "Angel of the Morning" are a delight to listen to. Too bad about the dire "Long Live Love"...any song that inclides a line about "the Sally Annie band" deserves to get skipped on my CD player.

Sneakily, the CD is topped and tailed with two actual hits, namely "I Honestly Love You", and "Country Roads". And hey, there's another good one in there as well("If Not For You"), well I never.

OK I'm joking. If this CD was advertised as "Olivia Newton John sings favourite cover versions from her back catalogue" then I would be less harsh. So to sum up, I do like the songs on here, and fans of Olivia will probably enjoy her renditions of them quite a lot. The choice of songs she has covered is prety good and she performs them very well - especially "The Air That I Breathe", which she gives a special kind of sensuality to. Plus unlike other budget CDs, these are the original versions, even the (few) hits. So I do like it really. I just don't like the way it's being marketed.
