Olivia in 2002! Wicked!
Even though the duet partners on this album are unknown to most UK music listners this is still one great duet album. Its the perfect summer driving album for chilling out. The UK release of '2' will be something to look out for, especially the new Cliff Richard duet that has been recorded for it. I believe some more well known artists will be included on it. This Australian version however makes a great listen. Highlights include the duet with Peter Allen, (he wrote Olivia's mega hit 'I Honestly Love You', Have a listen to Olivia's 1998 version of this track on her album, Back With A Heart and also included on The Wedding Planner soundtrack, its amazing.) Also the duets with Australias boy band 'Human Nature' and Darren Hayes are the best . Have a listen, its amazing to hear Olivia's more mature voice that is just getting better, especially Live in concert!
(2) is (1) for the fans
Whilst (2) won't convert anyone not already a follower, it is - for the most part - an enjoyable album and a welcome return from Olivia. The tracks that stand out include the duet with Darren Hayes 'Lift Me Up' and a great 'feelgood' number with Tina Arena (this one'll be good for summer driving - a touch of Australia?). For me one of the finest songs is 'Tenterfield Saddler' with Peter Allen - thoughtful and atmospheric, partly due to the fact that the latter is no longer around. The same goes for Johnny O'Keefe with whom Olivia duets on 'I'm Counting On You. Despite the obvious difference in decades between the two vocals being recorded, this is a real 'singalong' track that certainly adds to this album's appeal.
I do, however, have to agree with a previous reviewer that the contributions with Richard Marx and, particularly, Michael McDonald are a disappointment.
If you're a fan buy it -
