Album Description
Olivia Newton-John makes her spectacular return with a new album of covers of classic songs most famously performed by other legendary female vocalists, including Nina Simone, Doris Day and Minnie Ripperton.
CD Description
'Indigo' is yet another installemt in the career of one of Australia's most famous exports, Olivia Newton-John. A collection of cover versions by artists that have influenced and inspired her over the years, the album contains songs by artists such as Karen Carpenter, Minnie Ripperton and Joan Baez, all covered in Newton-John's own inimitable style. Includes covers of Minnie Ripperton's 'Loving You', and Cilla Black's 'Alfie'.

olivias triumphant return
having been a fan of olivias since the very begginning i was a little nervous about this album.to me olivia needs to record a true pop/dance album with more tracks like a little more love xanadu or no matter what you do. on listening to this album i have to say that its fantastic.olivias vocal range is stunning.there isnt 1 bad track on this album.vocally olivia has proved she can give ms streisand some competition.her rendition of send in the clowns beats streisands hands down.but the highlight for me is summertime. this was a song i never liked but listening to olivia has changed my mind.
my honest opinion was there were to many artists doing cover albums of this nature micheal buble rod stewart etc.
the choice of tracks is flawless and the fantastic production by phil ramone have me hoping for indigo vol 2.if rod stewart can have 3 volumes im sure olivia can have at least 2.for personal reasons this album isnt my no1 olivia album that honour goes to gaia a really personal album but it does get joint no2 with totally hot. i hope this album marks return to the charts for olivia as i beleive she truly deserves to be there .shes been away too long not that she hasnt had albums out but they have been poorly marketed and promoted.with the success of the definitve collection and hopefully indigo perhaps universal will consider remastering her entire back catalogue which has never been available in uk except on import . festival did a great job in australia.
all in all a fine example of olivias vocal talent indigo is a must have.this is definately my album of the year
A MUST HAVE
Olivia's tribute CD to the female singers that have inspired her, is an inspirational album itself.
Her voice still has the magic and range to make these songs sound fresh, and her delivery is on the mark every time.
My favourite is Send In The Clowns and Alfie. She sings with great conviction, and her version of Rainy Days and Mondays is a lovely tribute to Karen Carpenter.
A delightful album from start to finish, great songs, great production, great musicians sung by a great singer.
OLIVIA at her BEST!!!!
This album is Truly Fantastic. Olivia's Voice is Superb! Every song on this CD shines!! At first listen I wanted to go back to the Three songs from the Sampler " Anyone Who Had A Heart, How Insensitive and Cry Me A River" and play those over and over...but instead....I ran straight for LOVIN YOU...
Having absolutely LOVED this song originally ...I was anxious in hearing Olivia's Version...and LET ME TELL YOU ..SHE DOES MINNIE PROUD. Olivia decided not to hit the HIGH Note..and I think that was a good decision....NOT because she couldn't hit it...but because it would have been a copy...and instead...this song Co-exists beautifully between Olivia and MINNIE. Send in the Clowns...IS incredible..Olivia has a way of eliciting emotion that make you feel as though you are living what the song is actually about. Summertime...shows Olivia has that smokey quality in her delivery... While Still being HELLA SEXY!! Had Burt Bacharach recorded ALFIE with Olivia instead of DIONNE WARWICK, I think he would have been just as pleased. Olivia sings this song with such conviction that I had to compare it with the original and other versions...Olivia's
version is more than just another read...its HER interpetation...and if it doesn't prove to you that Olivia is one of the best interpetive singers around...then nothing she does will ever do so!!
The one thing that is consistent with this album is the sheer quality of the recording and the production. Phil Ramone does what he does well!! There's no overblown instrumentation battling Olivia...nothing..its just the right amount of music to allow OLIVIA to Shine....and she Shines soo BRIGHT I think I NEED SUNGLASSES!!! All of Olivia's work here is beautiful...Even my least favourite song Rainy Days and Mondays...finds me going back to it..as though Karen herself is saying to me...Take another Listen..Take another Listen..and believe me I will!!
I can't help but compare this to Warm And Tender...in many ways IMHO these two albums are very similar and Different...But the most Glaring Difference is while you can tell that OLIVIA is Singing for her Daughter..in Warm and Tender...Here OLIVIA sings for herself...Thanking Everyone in her past that has shaped her to be OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN...If only all thank you's were this sweet!!
