Synopsis
Being a fundraiser is exciting and fulfilling, but also full of challenges. You know what is important but how do you communicate that to potential supporters? And just how do you keep your motivation when the money isn't rolling in? Jonathan Farnhill is an experienced fundraiser who knows both the pleasure and the pain of fundraising. His premise is that what fundraisers need is not the 'how' of fundraising - the technical skills to carry out their jobs - but the 'why', a sense of the 'bigger picture'. In 33 humorous and pin-sharp vignettes, the book distils the spirit of fundraising, including: divine compost - why what you do now matters; my bubble, you squeak - engaging with the outside world; and, the porcupine principle - managing your message."The Porcupine Principle" is both down-to-earth and thought-provoking at the same time. Interwoven with practical fundraising tips and advice, it will also help you reflect deeply on your fundraising practice, bringing meaning and a sense of perspective to an invaluable profession. 'Contains a wealth of ideas from someone who has been there and done it'. - Stuart Etherington, Chief Executive, NCVO.

'Deserves to be the fundraising book of the year'. - Peter Fletcher FFIA, CFRW University Hospital, Birmingham Charities.

Customer Reviews

A very clear read5
If you want a Fundraising "How To" Guide, this isn't the book for you, but if you have fundraising experience this is a hilarious must read. Farnhill has had lot's of fundraising experience and writes about the problems that everyone has encountered in a humourous manner. I especially liked the bit about the different members of a Fundraising Team, I could certinly relate to that!
