Vax Mach 7
After originally considering the Dyson products, I was attracted by the price of this Vax, although unsure of the performance. I can happily say that it's performance is excellent, and superior to our old Dyson. It also seems to be more sturdily built than the Dyson, although only time will tell, however that may have come at the cost of the one disadvantage of the Vax which is that it is quite heavy. The turbo tool it comes with is great and makes cleaning the stairs and the car a whole lot easier.
I am very happy with this vacuum and thoroughly recommend it, at this price it is a steal and nearly half the price of a Dyson.

The Heavy Weight title goes to....
If you are looking for spotless cleaning then this vacuum may be for you, works brilliantly on carpets and hard floors alike and is well designed for the user. Be warned though as the mach 7 really is the heavy weight, when you have the vacuum on its lowest setting for the best cleaning it is very heavy to use and difficult to manoeuvre, but remember a little more weight might mean that it lasts a little longer.

All of the tools are well placed on the body of the Vax and the turbo tool is spot on for stairs and small rugs, also the extension wands, crevice and upholstery tools make easy work of the areas that you can't get the Vax its self; this is however necessary as the extra wide cleaning head of the Vax does limit the number of spaces that you can fit it (if you don't like to move your dining chairs while cleaning then you may want to measure up first)

All this being said I still think it worthy of 5 stars and all the pushing and pulling will just save you half an hour at the gym.

Good but flawed

I have just bought this after years of Dysons.
It has brilliant suction, an excellent range of accessories and is quieter than the DC04 it replaces. The light seems a bit superfluous, who vacuums in the dark?
However, it has, in my view, two serious design faults.
1 The "Dirt Cup" ie the container which collects the dust and dirt has a pathetic capacity (less than half the DC04) and this is because the electric cord rewind reel just beneath it takes up too much space. Parenthetically, I have never thought spring-loaded cable rewind devices were a great idea, they tend to be heavy and are something else to go wrong.
2 The balance is all wrong. At 10.6 kg the VZL is 2.6kg (nearly 6lbs) heavier than the DC04. This may reflect a sturdier machine but because most of the weight seems to be concentrated in the column which contains the rewind reel, the dirt cup and associated piping the machine is tiring to use for any length of time. The effect is like having a wheelbarrow with too much weight in the barrow.
Overall, I rate it three stars. I think it has some excellent features but could do with a few desgn tweaks.
