Unimpressed
After my bagged Morphy Richards vacuum cleaner started to disintegrate I decided to move into the realm of bagless cleaners. Having decided against the uberexpensive Dysons we settled on a Vax having read generally good reviews of them. Admittedly we were going to go for the Pet version of this cleaner but Vax offered us a decent discount on the regular version. Given that there's little obvious difference between them we agreed. Mistake.
While the suction may not descrease as the cleaner fills it has nothing like as much suction as our old cleaner to begin with, not even close. The head it comes with is so tight to the carpet that rather than suck up any surfact dirt it simply pushes it around and you regularly have to lift the head to suck up the collection of debris. The tube doesn't click into the handle, you just push it in and hope it stays put, but it's not overly keen on remaining there and rotates or falls out completely on a regular basis.
Having completed a frustrating circuit of our less than vast house there was nothing to suggest the Vax had lifted an increased amount of dirt and I was left wishing I'd spent the money replacing the damaged parts on our exisiting cleaner.
Not awful but nothing to shout about either and there must be better cleaners on the market than this which didn't live up to expectations.
UPDATE
The friendly people at Vax agreed to take the cleaner back and give us a full refund. That was getting on for three months ago and we've yet to get so much as a penny out of them despite assurances that the refund was being processed.
Harder Work Than Necessary
It's not as if I enjoy housework in the first place, but vacuuming ranks there with one of the most boring maintenance tasks around the home, so I want an appliance that makes life easier.
The design of this vax is quite appealing and it's nicely compact so it should be ideal for a small flat with next to no storage space. The flex is a good length which makes the unit very easy to get around the place, and there is nice adjustable metal hose with the usual extra nozels to get the job done.
The cylinder release is simple and empties fairly easily (a few taps on the rim of the bin should shake out most of the dust). The motor is also reasonably quiet, which is great not only for my ears, but it should mean the neighbours aren't too bothered if there's a vaccuming emergency later in the evening.
Sadly, for all it's design and on the box boasting, this little machine comes nowhere close to being easy to use as the main head doesn't fit the metal hoze and falls off before it has a chance to touch the floor and this makes the job infuriatingly inconvenient and needlessly exhausting and mine was returned the very next day.
So, if you're a glutton for punishment, by all means take this beast for a spin, but I'd recommend looking elsewhere.
Weak
I echo my husbands comments below. I broke into a sweat using this machine due to the effort needed trying to pick up dirt. With bits falling off as you go it was hard work! I was very disappointed in this machine and dont think its worth the money, especially for a carpeted house. Its a shame because its a funky little machine and the staff I dealt with at Vax were very helpful and friendly and purchase and return. After I explained why I was unhappy they offered a complete refund and to collect the appliance - no struggle at all. Wouldnt rule out Vax necessarily but may be better to get something with stronger suction and a turbobrush if you have pets or long hair.
