Excellent Book Recommend for Beginners
My daughter got this book as a present from a Friend in Holland and it has taught her loads. It has the words as they should be pronounced which is a great study guide on its own. I know my daughter would deffinately recommend this book as a travellers guide as well as conversational use book.

A great quick start to Dutch
I found this book to be a great help when over in Holland recently. It's well structured and walks you through the most common phrases that you may need to use. It also cuts back on grammatical theory and instead keeps things nice and simple.

If you are looking for a solid grounding in Dutch grammar (how to build and structure sentences etc) then this is probably not the book for you. However, if you just need a quick guide to get you up and running with some common phrases then I would definitely recommend this guide. It also gives useful information on things such as eating out, using public transport, arranging accommodation etc etc.

Fairly comprehensive list
I bought this book to use in Flanders rather than the Netherlands and it has proved very useful. The only reason I don't give it five stars is that the restaurant vocabulary doesn't include any words for game. I spent the autumn playing charades with waitresses (a pleasant enough pastime in truth) before they would confirm that an item on the menu was, for example, hare: " that's right - like a rabbit, but wild".
