Pretty Poor Pronouncement
The dual CD and leaflet which come in this pack are a fine pair, they both annoy and confound the reader/listener in equal measure.
First of all, the quality of the leaflet included is awfully low, a less than A5 set of pages, folded in half with poor print margins. It almost looks like it comes out of someone's PC printer and has been sold by accident.
The two speakers on the CD's do not really tie into the booklet they are taking the listener through, they simply autonomously read out the statements. Sometimes without even referencing the section of the booklet they're within.
The speakers also change over without warning, from the male to the female, making listening and continuety of learning very difficult.
Luckily I have been guided by a Dutch national to discontinue reading from this course and buy something better, in their words "This Book makes you sound dumb". The pronunciation key is very off kilter, I have been told that it'll make you sound out Dutch, but with an Americanised accent, not a natural fluent Dutch accent.
In addition, the pronunciation key used for the diction between English to Dutch is not a standard key, it uses what appear to be approximations of sound based on the American accent, not on standardised English.
So you will struggle on all counts with this product, not least for the shabby presentation of the booklet.
Marvellous!
This book/CD set are so very useful my daughter stole it from me - to practice Dutch ere she married one of them (Dutch, I mean). read the book, listen to the excellent CD's and you'll pick up the present indicative acive of the verb without 'stress'. Now, where might I find a more advanced book/Cd set of the same calibre?
See how encouraging it is?
