Customer Reviews
Not quite as expected
Forget the grammar section in this dictionary - it covers a few things (including a good pronunciation guide! )over 9 pages at the beginning and a few tables of irregular verbs at the end. That s all.
I would have expected a lot more of the promised useful phrases.
Example of "useful phrases" : Out of 8 uses of the word "think" there are four phrases: I think so, I don t think so, I think highly of him, I can't think of his name. 4 more words with "think" are then given: "think tank", "think about","think of", "think over".
Many words show no phrase or good example.
Example: I wish to tell a taxi driver to turn left or right. So I look up the word "turn", neither "turn left" or "turn right" are shown but "turn around","turn back" and "turn off" are there. So I now look up "left" - hoping to find "turn left" - it is not there, so I look up "right", hoping to find "turn right" - at last it's there.
In other words it is not consistently "packed with phrases"...
So, if you are expecting to buy this as a phrase book then be wary, there are better ones about (Berlitz, Lonely Planet etc.)
All in all it is still better than the typical useless old fashioned dictionary (of which I own a few) but get the phrasebook and the grammar extra.
