Superb for cramming!
I bought this to help me cram enough usable Italian to be able to manage with a host family for a month and be able to speak reasonable simple but hopefully grammatical Italian for an English teaching placement.The layout is clear and it is progressive with lots of detail. The Easy Learning series from Collins are in my opinion an essential complement to a foreign Dictionary as they also have most of the common verbs listed in an index at the back. Given the price I would recommend these as the definitive grammar guides for new learners and they are also a good compliment to help fill an audio course although, Michel Thomas will be spinning in his grave to hear me say that!

This book is great, when completing an assimil lesson; I read the assimil lesson and whatever grammar the lesson is teaching, and this book consolidates upon the grammar being taught immensely.
