French basic - TALK FRENCH
Not a bad basic starter book for French though the CD that accompanies is hard to follow. The native French speakers talk far too quickly. They ought to have known better.
A big jump from Talk French Book 1
I do like this (I have been learning French for nearly 3 years), but it is certainly not a beginners book. It quickly goes into quite complex grammar. Book 1 is brilliant and this could put people off.
French Talk 2 by Sue Purcell
I like the way this course focuses very much on the spoken language with lots of hints on practising by yourself or with a partner. The cd recordings are good and necessary for familiarising oneself with the sound of the language.
