Editorial Reviews

Review
'There is not a school or department or even teacher who would not gain from improved motivation for themselves and their class.' - Roy Leighton, London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts

'This is now one of my top five education books. I expected to skim it quickly and dutifully. Instead I was absorbed and uplifted by it and my own practice as a teacher will undoubtedly change as a result. Surely there can be no higher recommendation.' - Geoff Barton, Times Educational Supplement

'This book encourages teachers to take a close look at their pupils and find out what makes them tick, taking a step back to ask "Is what I'm teaching relevant to the pupils and their lives?" This is an energetic, witty and stimulating book, including lively anecdotes and quotes from celebrities such as Bill Gates and Will Smith. Above all, it is full of achievable ideas that don't cost a penny to implement.' - Jayne Verity, DfES

Customer Reviews

Simply the best!5
I have been in Education for over twenty years, five as the Head of a High school. In all that time I have never read a more accessible, humourous or thought provoking book about education. I read it from cover to cover within 24 hours of it arriving and have just ordered copies for all staff. Ian Gilbert manages to inform, inspire and entertain all at once. I believe that implementing the suggestions that Ian promotes will make a difference to the well being and success of our school. It should be compulsory reading for all teachers.

Very readable, very common sense, very thought provoking5
I've read and re-read this book so many times and I will continue to do so. It is packed with pearls of wisdom, yet it is very down to earth. Stuffed with erudite quotes and soundbites to impress and still full of accessible, humourous chalk face common sense. Ian Gilbert clearly cares about the future of our children and our teachers - every page screams with heartfelt passion. New teachers, jaded teachers, the cynical and the searching - we can all benefit, professionally and personally, from this truly excellent book.
