Good value for beginners
The product comes packaged in a DVD case which contains two CDs with the audio on, and the course booklet.

The audio on both CDs is very crisp and clear, and I had no trouble hearing any of the pronunciation, although I found that putting the tracks on the computer made it easier, as I could use media player controls to repeat words or phrases.

The included booklet is nicely laid out, however it's pretty obvious that it's a photocopy of a much older text which has been squashed down to save on paper/ink costs. Some of the bold text is very difficult to read at a glance- not what you want when you are trying to learn the language from it! If the booklet or font was a little bigger, I would probably have given the full 5 stars, as the number of phrases in the book is excellent- it is a thorough introduction to Russian.

Could be better
I was pretty surprised to receive a product from Amazon that looks like it was knocked up on a home PC. I think that the spoken language CDs are genuine, however being a beginner I can't be sure (the only word I know is thankyou). The whole thing is rather outdated with a soviet feel to it, for example it has references to telegrams and vistors passes. Given that the 'book' that comes with it (it's an A6 leaflet with poor print quality) refers to the 'cassette' course I assume that this is an old cassette language course that has been copied onto CD. On the plus side it is a good price for a language course that contains CDs of the pharses being spoken by a navie speaker, essential for someone like me who simply can't use the pronoucation guides. I was also able to rip the CD's on to my computer meaning I will be able to listen to them on an MP3 player. The course deals solely with common pharses and doesn't deal with grammar or sentence structure at all. You 'learn quickly' because there is only just over an hour of audio to master. It's a good start but you will need a more comprehensive and up to date pharse book to accompany it. I don't think I will be buying from this series again. It might be worth spending the extra money on a more comprehensive course.
