- New Super Mario Bros. Wii offers a combination of cooperation and competition. Players can pick each other up to save them from danger or toss them into it.
- Mario, Luigi and two Toads are all playable characters, while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom make appearances throughout the game. Players can even ride different Yoshi characters and use their tongues to swallow enemies - or their fellow players.
- In some areas, players use the motion abilities of the Wii Remote controller. The first player to reach a seesaw might make it tilt to help his or her character reach a higher platform - and then tilt it incorrectly just to mess with other players.
- New items include the propeller suit, which will shoot players high into the sky with just a shake of the Wii Remote and Mario's new ability to transform into Penguin Mario.
- At the end of each stage during the simultaneous multiplayer mode, players are ranked based on their score, the coins collected and the number of enemies defeated.

A Return To Old Skool Mario Classic 2-D Gaming!
Well, I have to say, this game is superb. Maybe I'm biased as I grew up in the era of the NES but the old 2D Mario platforming games are amongst my favourite games ever! Sure, I like to play modern games such as Modern Warfare 2 and while these are perfectly good games (which I enjoy!), I miss a time when games were simpler and you didn't need 80 fingers to play them...
Old skool Mario gamers will love it's nods towards Mario nostalgia - remixed versions of old tunes, old enemies, characters, level layouts, point scoring at the end of levels on flagpoles, card games in Mushroom huts - it has so many references to all the old Mario games that if you were a fan of them, you're going to be instantly won over here!
Currently, I'm only playing this as a one player affair... but the addition of multiplayer will make for some fantastically frantic and fun games! Having played LittleBigPlanet as a multiplayer, all I can say is that this game will blatantly work just as well - in fact, probably a lot better! I found LBP a very good game as well, but for me personally, it lacked the character of Mario.
This game is blatantly aimed at old skool gamers - this game starts off fairly easy but expect the challenge to increase throughout the game! It never gets frustrating and due it's simple design never feels unfair. No glitches, unfair deaths or alike here... it's all your own doing!
While this game looks superb, it doesn't push the hardware to the max. While some people may frown upon this, I think it is refreshing that this game revolves around gameplay rather than graphics. A lot of modern games are certainly guilty of this. Having said that, this game does look very nicely presented - and Nintendo have pushed the graphics as far as a game of this stature will allow.
Finishing note - I haven't felt this inclined to play through a game for a long time. Quite often I can only play a game for a short while before I want a break - this game makes me want to come back for more and I'm having to prevent myself from playing it in order to be more constructive with my time! All I have to say is that if you're an old skool game fan, a Mario fan or just want something more traditional and less complex (but certainly no less deeper) look no further than this game!
Puts the ds version down the drain! (please read this)
18 years it's been since a proper 2-d scroller! And now mario makes his way back to rule the living room.
I won't make this to long!
Straight to the point! The first thing you will notice when you play this game is it's charming new look. Playing it on a big telly will add to the amazement. Older gamers will be happy to know that everything from the origanal mario bros. is still here! The music is in-geneous, It is a remix from the ds version. The new multiplayer is excellent! And if all this still isn't enough, the levels are completly new and never played before!
This is all a bit overwhelming if you are a parent thinking of buying it for a child for christmas. So i will do what I always do sum it up in points.

2. as the game gets harder, yes there will be cursing going on.
3. is it a bit to hard for young kids?
4. the mega mushroom is missing...
5. can be a tad frustrating at times
Overall though an outstanding game for people aged 3-infinite. Ideal for x-mas and don't hesitate to comment on the review. I will awnser any questions.
Merry X-MAS!
Here we go again
Mario has been in many games of varying quality, but the character was founded on the success of the Super Mario Bros series, which has been superb in every installment. The basic ingredients never change; played solo, this Wii version is like any other Super Mario Bros game, which is running across the screen, typically from left to right, jumping over holes, jumping on enemies, collecting coins and power-ups. This game is marketed as a multiplayer experience, but don't worry if you have nobody else to play with; it is totally possible to finish every level on your own, and not much more difficult to do so either. Friends can join or be removed from a game in progress, so you can do some levels alone and others with company as and when you get the chance.
Starting with this game, a new option lets the computer finish a level for you if you've become hopelessly stuck on it or just don't understand how it's done. I've always thought this would be a good idea; now everybody can see the entire game regardless of their skill level. Of course it is possible to repeat any level as much as you like, so after choosing to let the computer help you out, you can always go back and attempt anything again without the help. You do need to be stuck though; I finished the game relatively comfortably so this help was never offered to me. I say relatively; there were some sections which really really annoyed me. I'd definitely call this a more frustrating than relaxing game. On the other hand, players who are just really good can opt for a greater challenge by finding alternative ways to complete levels. SMB games have always had some capacity for this, but NSMB Wii really extends what is possible with player cooperation in multiplayer, and also the ability to shake your Wii remote to get more hang time in the air than was possible in previous games. 'Super skills' videos can be unlocked which show expert player ways to complete levels without even touching the floor, carefully bouncing and fluttering between enemies, picking up dozens of extra lives along the way.
I wouldn't really rate the level design in NSMB Wii as much better than earlier entries in the series. It is more of a 'Best Of' than a reinvention; classic enemies and themes make up most of the content. At least they put back in things that were lost in NSMB on the DS, making this one feel more complete. Yoshi, the dinosaur that you can ride, is back, as are the koopa kids, so you have a different boss in each world instead of the DS game's constant reuse of Bowser Jr. The new power-ups are a real highlight of this Wii version; an ice flower which lets you freeze enemies by throwing ice balls; a rarer penguin suit which does the same thing in addition to making you a better swimmer and letting you slide on your belly; and a suit with a propellor on its cap which lets you fly vertically by shaking the Wii remote. I would say the music is the weakest area of the game. It is catchy but becomes annoying because too many levels use the same music. Overall I have to give the game 5 stars. I always rate highly, but that has something to do with me not buying things that I won't enjoy. x
