Have fun while you learn5

This is the 5th member of the Classic FM 'Friendly' family (the others are guides to Mozart, Beethoven, Elgar and Music) and until I read this book I thought I had a reasonable knowledge of classical music.

How wrong I was!

There's no free CD like the rest of the family books have, but that's no problem for it keeps the cost down and speeds the questions up making this great entertainment for after dinner, in the car (don't read and drive!) or for just a spare 15 minutes to fill.

The categories are well thought out, each with 20 questions, including Quick Fire (general classical music knowledge), They Said What? (Name the composer who came out with that outrageous quip), Mix and Match (a list of composers, you decide if they're early, baroque, classical, romantic or modern), In Good Voice (a list of singers, you decide if they're soprano mezzo-soprano, tenor, counter-tenor etc)...

For me this book is an ideal after dinner game played like 'Question of Sport', with one quizmaster and two teams, each one containing a (so-called) classical music expert as captain. The music buff will be surprised at how much they don't know, while the occasional listener will be patting themselves on the back with each correct answer they give.

It's guaranteed to entertain and educate.
